Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Chief Pharmacy Officer, the VP of Ambulatory Care Pharmacy is responsible for setting the strategic direction, defining and meeting financial targets, and determining resource needs for all Sutter Health (SH) ambulatory pharmacy operations, including Retail, Specialty, Oncology, Mail Order, Central Fill, and Infusion Pharmacies. Additionally, the VP will be responsible for the Operations and Clinical Services functional areas by leading network policies, procedures, and initiatives. They will ensure the department’s commitment to being innovative, proactive, and accountable for quality patient outcomes by optimizing medication use across the continuum of care. They will ensure Pharmaceutical Care for patients, with an emphasis on clinical monitoring and therapeutic interventions that improve patient outcomes and will support the maintenance of Performance Improvement processes to continually improve our Medication Use Process. They will be responsible for day-to-day operations, including dispensing accuracy and pharmacy workflow, to ensure accurate and timely dispensing and distribution. They will design and implement efficient services, offer revenue enhancements, monitor expenses, benchmark, encourage service excellence, and provide effective communications. Responsibilities also include strategic planning for business expansion and system integration, clinical and distributive services, financial management, regulatory compliance, and personnel management. This will be done collaboratively with other System, Regional, and Local Pharmacy leaders and departments within the system.

Job Description:

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate from ACPE‑accredited pharmacy college
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Residency Program Director experience preferred

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE Required:

  • Registered Pharmacist License within 1 year of entering position.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 10 years pharmacy experience – Must include retail, specialty, and infusion pharmacy experience
  • Management experience in a large integrated delivery network including direct supervision of pharmacy leaders across multiple campuses
  • Management experience in a matrixed organization
  • Must have experience managing budgets, P&L
  • Maintain the necessary level of professional knowledge and technical proficiency in areas of functional responsibility, including maintaining state required continuing education
  • Experience designing and opening new retail and infusion pharmacies
  • 340B experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of State, Federal and accrediting body regulations and standards, performs in accordance with them.
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
  • Demonstrates credible leadership presence, with the ability to respond to questions with logic, clarity, calmness and authority; and the ability to motivate and engage others.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Understanding of the budgetary process and familiarity with the healthcare financial environment.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in achieving goals through individuals without having direct control of those resources.
  • Ability to build and establish effective working partnership with employees, peers and leaders to achieve business objectives.
  • Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), The Joint Commission (TJC), Title XXII, United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

This role requires residence within the Sutter Health footprint and the ability to travel throughout.

Pay Range is $382,500.00 to $517,500.00 / annual salary

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
