Job description

Description:

Job Title: Vice President, Strategic Communications

Department: Reputation Services

Location: Remote

Reports to: Head of Strategic Communications

Who You Are

You are a senior communications strategist who has advised C-suite leaders through complexity: reputational crises, institutional pivots, enrollment emergencies, and market disruptions. You know how to walk into a room with a university president or provost and earn credibility in the first five minutes, because you have lived the work they are navigating.

As Vice President, Strategic Communications, you will serve as a trusted advisor and consultant to higher education institutions seeking strategic counsel. Your deep fluency in crisis communications, executive messaging, institutional reputation management, and the growing role of AI in shaping how institutions are seen will be the differentiator that opens doors and earns lasting partnerships.

You will be a part of a consultative practice built on expertise, relationships, and the ability to diagnose what an institution actually needs before they know how to ask for it.

Here are the abilities that we seek out:

  • Engage directly with presidents, provosts, CMOs, and enrollment leaders to identify strategic communications needs and position EducationDynamics as a mission-critical partner.
  • Bring demonstrated crisis communications experience to client conversations, offering frameworks and perspective that reflect firsthand institutional knowledge.
  • Understand how earned media and reputation work now shape AI visibility — how tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews describe an institution — and counsel clients on strengthening that presence.
  • Leverage AI as a strategic tool in your own practice, using it to sharpen research, messaging, and the diagnosis of complex client challenges.
  • Cultivate a portfolio of institutional partnerships with a solutions-oriented approach grounded in real communications practice.
  • Translate complex client challenges, including reputational risk, enrollment decline, brand confusion, and leadership transitions, into actionable scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across marketing, enrollment management, research, and consulting to architect client solutions that are integrated and achievable.
  • Represent EducationDynamics at conferences, executive roundtables, and in one-on-one advisory settings with senior institutional leadership.
  • Maintain a visible, credible presence in the higher education communications market, with a professional profile that generates inbound interest and referrals.

Requirements:

What You Offer

Experience

  • 10 or more years of experience in higher education communications, with a track record that includes crisis communications, executive advisory work, or institutional reputation management.
  • Demonstrated experience working at or alongside C-suite leaders in higher education, with the standing and fluency to operate at that level as a peer and advisor.
  • Solid understanding of how enrollment marketing and student communications have evolved over the past decade, particularly in the career-focused sector.
  • A professional reputation in the higher education market that gives you real access to institutional decision makers.
  • Experience in consultative or solution-based selling, ideally of communications, marketing, or enrollment services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to individuals, executive teams, and conference audiences.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or a comparable CRM platform.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a complex, relationship-driven book of business.
