BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Technician to join their fast-paced hospital as our newly developed role of Pharmacy and Laboratory Veterinary Technician
Pay: $20 - $40 / hour
This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.
As a Pharmacy and Laboratory Veterinary Technician, you are a liaison between all of our departments. You will work directly with our clinicians to manage prescription orders for all our patients while managing and organizing our pharmacy. You will be involved with client contact through phone calls, email, and in person conversations to provide prescription updates. In addition, you will also be responsible for running all in house diagnostics including IDEXX lab equipment and reporting findings of microscopic evaluation. Strong pharmacology and clinical pathology skills are required as well as being a licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of Florida.
As a Pharmacy and Laboratory Veterinary Technician, you will...
  • Fill prescriptions for hospitalized patients, appointments, and refill request orders
  • Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Check pharmacy stock to determine inventory level, anticipate the need for supplies, and place orders.
  • Verify receipts
  • Remove/return outdated drugs
  • Maintain and fulfill controlled substance cabinets
  • Maintain and fulfill stocking of medical supplies in designated locations from Central Supply
  • Research and remain up to date with Pharmacy Regulations for Veterinarians
  • Perform regular maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Check laboratory stock to determine inventory level, anticipate the need for supplies, and place orders.
  • Unload and stock supplies.
  • Assisting the clinical team with pathology patient services.
  • Perform cross training of hospital staff in laboratory duties.
  • Assist doctors and technicians in sample collection.
  • Entry of laboratory test results into patient records.
  • Reporting of alert values to the pathologist or attending veterinarian.
  • Providing patient updates and lab results to the primary care veterinarian
  • Same day response time for in house laboratory samples.
  • Complete any additional tasks not specified and/or assignments as request by the Department Manager
