Job description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated FULL TIME Veterinary Kennel Assistant to join our esteemed team at East York Veterinary Center. As a Veterinary Kennel Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent care and support to our animal patients and their owners. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the comfort, cleanliness, and well-being of the animals in our care, as well as assisting our veterinary staff with various tasks to facilitate the smooth operation of our hospital.

East York Veterinary Center is a well-established, full-service small animal hospital serving the York, PA community for over 30 years. Our state-of-the-art facility is designed to provide high-quality, compassionate care in a clean, efficient, and welcoming environment. With a collaborative team of experienced veterinarians and support staff, we are dedicated to delivering exceptional medical care across all stages of a pet's life-from routine wellness to advanced diagnostics, surgery, and emergency support. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Animal Care and Support:
    • Provide compassionate and attentive care to animals in the kennel, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
    • Assist with walking, feeding, and administering medications as directed by veterinary staff.
    • Observe animals for any signs of distress, illness, or behavior changes and promptly report concerns to veterinarians or veterinary technicians.
  2. Cleaning and Sanitation:
    • Maintain a clean and sanitary kennel environment by regularly cleaning and disinfecting cages, runs, and common areas.
    • Launder and sanitize bedding, towels, and other animal-related items.
    • Properly dispose of waste and ensure waste areas are kept clean and organized.
  3. Animal Handling and Restraint:
    • Safely and gently handle animals, following established protocols for restraint to ensure the safety of both animals and staff.
    • Assist veterinary staff during procedures and examinations, providing support as needed.
  4. Client Interaction and Communication:
    • Interact with pet owners in a professional and friendly manner, providing updates on their pets' well-being and addressing any questions or concerns.
    • Assist with check-in and check-out procedures, ensuring a smooth experience for both clients and their pets.
  5. Facility Maintenance and Organization:
    • Assist with maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the clinic/hospital, including exam rooms, treatment areas, and public spaces.
    • Assist with inventory management, restocking supplies, and maintaining a well-organized supply storage area.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine passion for animals and a strong commitment to their welfare.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, team members, and veterinarians.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and protocols accurately.
  • Physical capability to lift, carry, and restrain animals of varying sizes.
  • Basic computer skills for record keeping and communication purposes.
  • Previous experience in a veterinary setting or animal care role is a plus.

Benefits:

Salary: $14.00-$16.00 an hour, to commensurate with experience. 

Schedule: Full time with the ability to work rotating Saturdays and Sundays shifts. Weekend and holiday responsibilities are shared on a rotating basis to support patient care and the hospital team.
