To thrive as a Veterinary Insurance Investigator, you need a strong understanding of insurance policies, veterinary terminology, and investigative techniques, typically supported by experience in insurance or animal health. Familiarity with claims management software, case documentation systems, and relevant certifications such as AIC (Associate in Claims) are commonly required. What is veterinary insurance?

Veterinary insurance, also known as pet insurance, is a type of policy that helps cover the cost of veterinary care for pets. It typically reimburses pet owners for expenses related to accidents, illnesses, surgeries, and sometimes routine wellness care, depending on the plan. This insurance can help pet owners manage unexpected veterinary bills and ensure their pets receive necessary medical treatment without financial stress. Policies vary in coverage, deductibles, and premiums, so it's important to compare options before choosing a plan.

What are some common challenges Veterinary Insurance Agents face when helping clients choose the right coverage for their pets?

Veterinary Insurance Agents often encounter challenges such as explaining policy details in a way that clients can easily understand, especially since coverage options and exclusions can be complex. They must also stay updated on the latest products and regulations in the pet insurance industry. Additionally, agents frequently need to manage client expectations about what is covered and help them navigate the claims process, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience. Building trust and maintaining strong relationships with both pet owners and veterinary professionals is key for long-term success in this role.

Job description

WHO WE ARE:

Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC) is a rapidly growing group of emergency veterinary hospitals with five (soon to be six!) locations across the Midwest. Our mission is simple: expand into and support the communities that need us most, especially where pet owners don't currently have access to 24/7 emergency care.

EVCC is a veterinarian-led company that truly values the insight and leadership of our DVMs. Founded by 36 local general practice veterinarians—most of whom remain actively involved today—we're proud of the collaborative, team-first environment that defines every EVCC location.

We remain committed to delivering exceptional, around-the-clock care—because emergencies don't just happen between 9-5.

OUR MENTORSHIP PROGRAM:

EVCC is proud to offer a structured mentorship program designed for newly graduated veterinarians transitioning into emergency veterinary medicine. Our goal is to help you build confidence, develop critical ER skills, and feel fully supported as you grow into your role.

Because let's face it; while emergency veterinary care is an exciting and fulfilling field, it's not easy. That's why we take extra special care of our team members through continuing education opportunities, promotion possibilities, and a supportive work environment you can be proud of.

REPORTS TO: Emergency Veterinarian Medical Director

POSITION + PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Our Highland location needs skilled, friendly and energetic newly graduated Emergency Veterinarians who strive for and achieve excellence in emergency veterinary medicine in the area.

Your mentorship experience at EVCC is personalized to your learning style, pace, and professional goals. We work closely with you to determine the appropriate timeline and workflow for your development.

MONTHS 1 – 4: You'll be scheduled exclusively with a core member of our DVM mentorship team. This period focuses on hands-on guidance, case discussions, foundational ER skills, and consistent support.

MONTHS 4 – 7: Your schedule will transition into overlapping shifts with other associate DVMs. This collaborative phase helps you build relationships within the medical team and exposes you to a variety of clinical cases.

MONTHS 7 – 12: As you gain confidence, your schedule will include a mix of solo and overlapping shifts to help you develop independence. Even during solo shifts, you will always have access to veterinarians working at other EVCC locations for real-time support.

*All schedules and timelines remain flexible and will be continually adjusted based on your individual needs. Progression decisions are made collaboratively between you and your mentor.
