Surgical Veterinary Technician
Whitmire Animal Hospital - Dawsonville, GA
Whitmire Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our growing team! If you have a passion for surgery, anesthesia, and delivering exceptional patient care, we'd love to meet you.
Our privately owned, five-doctor small animal hospital provides comprehensive medical, surgical, dental, and preventive care in a modern, well-equipped facility. Conveniently located just off GA-400 in Dawsonville, we're only 30 minutes from Alpharetta and a short drive from the North Georgia Mountains, offering an excellent work-life balance.

What You'll Do
As a Veterinary Technician, you'll play an essential role in providing high-quality nursing care while supporting our doctors through surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and patient treatment.
Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia before, during, and after surgery
  • Assist veterinarians during routine and advanced surgical procedures
  • Place intravenous catheters and administer medications as directed
  • Perform venipuncture and collect laboratory samples
  • Run in-house laboratory diagnostics
  • Obtain digital radiographs, including dental radiographs
  • Perform professional dental cleanings
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and provide nursing care
  • Calculate medication dosages and maintain accurate medical records
  • Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, and post-operative care
  • Maintain surgical equipment, treatment areas, and exam rooms
  • Assist with inventory management and hospital organization
  • Work collaboratively with doctors and teammates to provide exceptional patient care
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a dependable, compassionate technician who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and values teamwork.
Qualifications include:
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, or CVT) preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 2 years of veterinary technician experience in a small animal practice
  • Strong surgical and anesthesia monitoring experience
  • Experience with dentistry and dental radiographs preferred
  • Proficiency with IV catheter placement, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, and patient monitoring
  • Excellent communication and client education skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient during urgent or emergency cases
  • Positive attitude and commitment to providing outstanding patient care
Schedule
  • Full-time (36-40 hours per week)
  • Typical hours: 7:30 AM - 6:30 PM
  • Rotating Saturdays as part of the hospital schedule
