Job Description:
The University of Florida's Wildlife and Aquatic Veterinary Disease Laboratory and Cervidae Health Research Initiative is hiring a postdoctoral research associate to work on characterizing emerging pathogens negatively impacting Florida wildlife and managed populations, emphasizing white-tailed deer. The ideal candidate will have expertise in bioinformatics, including analyzing metagenomic data (e.g., virome) and phylogenomics, statistics, and an interest in infectious disease research. The ability to develop novel computational methods using machine learning approaches for analyzing sequencing datasets will be an added advantage. The candidates will have a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals and strong communication and problem-solving skills. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Kuttichantran Subramaniam in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology.
Duties:
  • Participate in a full-time research program
  • Conceptualize, design, and implement research protocols
  • Develop new computational approaches and methods as appropriate
  • Collect, prepare, analyze, and maintain a database of research data
  • Perform data mining analysis related to virome, comparative genomics, and phylogenomics
  • Use graphics and statistical software to generate, analyze and synthesize data for presentation at conferences and manuscript preparation
  • Supervise and participate in the training of students, staff, visiting researchers, and volunteer workers as needed

Expected Salary:
Salary will be commensurate with the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (virology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or molecular biology)
