Job description

VCA Animal Specialty & Emergency Center is a high-volume, AAHA-accredited, referral and critical care hospital located in West Los Angeles. We are currently looking for an ER Assistant to join our team.

Location: 4641 Colorado Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039

Compensation:$ 26 - 42 per hour

Schedule: 24/7 ECC team with a variety of schedules available

A pay differential is applied to all "overnight" hours worked, with an additional differential applied to our full-time overnight team members.

Compensation for this position is dependent on education, experience, credentials, location, schedule, and additional responsibilities.

A little bit about us:

As one of LA's leading 24-hour specialty animal care centers for over 30 years now, here at VCA ASEC, we are always looking for the next best addition to our Emergency & Critical Care Team.

We have 6 specialties and roughly 200 associates on our team. As a teaching hospital, we host externs, interns, and residents every year. We strive to maintain our positive and supportive learning environment and keep our medicine and techniques ahead of the curve.

Our Emergency & Critical Care department is equipped to provide 24/7 care to incoming critical and non-critical emergencies, transfers from our referring veterinarians, and hospitalized patients from our own specialty services.

ECC Veterinary Technician/Assistant:

  • Ourposition requires a minimum of 3 years of current experience in veterinary medicine. Emergency experience is not required, but is considered a plus

  • Unlicensed veterinary assistants are required to have a valid CA VACSP

  • General knowledge of veterinary medicine

  • Small animal restraint and handling

  • Both basic and advanced veterinary nursing care

  • Medication administration - all routes

  • Phlebotomy and IV catheterization

  • Lab sample handling

  • Anesthesia prep and monitoring

  • Basic radiography

  • Triage and stabilization of a variety of emergency cases

  • Responsibilities include:providing nursing care to both our stable and critical hospitalized patients, triaging and stabilizing incoming emergencies, providing treatment to our outpatients, assisting with basic anesthetic procedures, and maintaining a clean and stocked treatment area.

Scheduling Info:

  • Full-time employees work "4 x 10s".

  • Overnight positions are available.

  • All schedules include working one weekend day.
