THE POSITION
The Licensed Practical Nurse role at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs offers a chance to make a real difference every day. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position helps ensure that residents receive consistent, safe, and respectful nursing care in a supportive environment. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:
  • Health Assessment Support: Assist the RN by checking resident health status and ensuring accurate and confidential documentation
  • Medication Management: Administer medications and treatments, verify pharmacy orders, and maintain accurate records
  • Resident Observation: Observe residents for changes or concerns and report findings while documenting daily care activities
  • Care Coordination: Work with the RN to help plan and adjust resident care and participate in nursing committees when needed
  • Safety and Hygiene: Ensure residents are clean, safe, and well groomed while supporting infection control practices
  • Specialized Care: Provide focused care for residents in specialty units such as Alzheimer care

Work Hours and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment. 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week.
  • Positions are available on the following shifts:
    • 1st shift (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM) with a 30 minute lunch
    • 2nd shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM) with a 30 minute lunch
    • 3rd shift (10:00 PM - 6:30 AM) with a 30 minute lunch
  • Rotating days and weekends. Working every other weekend is required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $68,914.00 (before taxes).
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the launch of a Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania's veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Special Requirements:
  • This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
