Job description

The VA Loma Linda has an opening for an energetic, driven, and compassionate Physician in healthcare to serve as a Dermatologist.

Facility Details: VA Loma Linda Healthcare System (VALLHCS) is actively recruiting to fill a Board Certified or Board Eligible Dermatologist to help care for our Veterans - America's Heroes! Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment at Loma Linda University & be involved with education & teaching of medical students, residents & other providers. This exciting job opportunity awaits you in our, state of-the-art VA facility in the city! VA Loma Linda is among the VA Medical Centers in the Western U.S. and has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation.


Position Details:

Evaluations/Consultations in diagnosing and treating skin disorders and diseases.

  • Provide comprehensive direct patient care in both the ambulatory-outpatient and inpatient dermatology settings, including evaluation/consultation, examination, diagnosis, follow-up, medical record documentation/record-keeping and correspondence surgical procedures including staffing resident clinics.
  • Interprets and evaluates clinical data for the purpose of determining diagnosis and clinical status.
  • Participate in electronic consultations (e-consult) to improve access to dermatology care as well as increased use of Specialty Care Access Network-Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (SCAN-ECHO) to foster education and improve care.
  • Participate in teledermatology store and forward consultations, virtual video connect visits, and myVAimage.

Therapeutic Ability

  • Prescribes appropriate and timely treatment; applies indicated therapeutic procedures; recognizes and assesses changes in behavior, symptoms, signs, and other pertinent facts about the patient and modifies plan of treatment when indicated. Recognizes own capabilities and limitations.
  • Order diagnostic tests and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
  • Perform minor procedures such as biopsies, shave biopsies, simple excisions, cryotherapy and intralesional injections, and patch testing.

Patient Management

  • Develops and maintains rapport and gains the confidence of patients and relatives through competence and interpersonal skills to the end that patients and others are informed participants in the treatment effort.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Provide evening, weekend, and holiday coverage of the dermatology consultation service in rotation with other staff Dermatologists.
  • Documentation of care in the medical record in keeping with the bylaws of the Medical Center. All encounters to be completed daily by physician as this affects hospital funding. Consults are required to be completed by the provider at the time patient has been seen.

Education

  • The candidate will be actively involved in the education of medical students, residents, and other providers and staff.
  • Provide supervisory oversight for residents, fellows, medical students, NP/PA students, and Nursing students and staff, as appropriate, who are assigned to the Dermatology Service.
  • Provide supervisory oversight of the clinical care on the inpatient service and ambulatory clinic of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants as appropriate.

Competencies and Administration

  • Ensures that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA policies.
  • Performing administrative and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of Dermatology.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, (Includes participation in On-Call coverage for evenings, weekends and holidays)

Salary Range: $340,000-$365,000

Board certification or Board eligible in Dermatology is preferred.
