Job description

The Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty in Bowie, MD is hiring a full- time Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our outstanding team!

We offer a generous sign- on bonus for qualified Registered Veterinary Technicians!

Compensation: Based on experience and skill set. $23- 29/hr.

Schedul e:  

  • 10- hour shifts

  • On call during the weekdays until midnight

  • Holidays

  • Flexibility to work weekends and swing shifts in ER when surgeons are on PTO

Job Requirements:  

  • Shares our commitment to our mission, vision, and values.   

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician

  • Demonstrated excellence in nursing care and critical thinking skills  

  • Strong desire to learn and grow in the role.  

  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.  

  • Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and limited on-call duties   (as needed).

Required Skills:  

  • Proficient in calculating doses and administering intravenous drugs and fluids  

  • Capable of monitoring patients under anesthesia (ventilator experience is a plus!)  

  • Strong client communication skills to obtain histories and review post- operative concerns

  • Skilled in obtaining and analyzing laboratory samples (blood, urine, and stool)  

  • Experience in catheter placement  

  • Strong time management, initiative, and task prioritization skills
