About the Role:

The Registered Vet Technician at Coyne Veterinary Center in St. John plays a critical role in supporting veterinary professionals by providing high-quality medical care to animal patients. This position involves assisting with diagnostic procedures, administering treatments, and monitoring patient progress to ensure optimal health outcomes. The technician will also be responsible for educating pet owners on post-treatment care and preventive health measures. Collaboration with veterinarians and other staff members is essential to maintain a smooth workflow and deliver compassionate care. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall success of the veterinary center by ensuring that all medical and technical aspects of animal care are executed efficiently and accurately.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current registration as a Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent certification.
  • Completion of an accredited veterinary technology program.
  • Experience working in a clinical veterinary setting.
  • Strong understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with surgical assistance and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic imaging techniques such as radiography, CT and ultrasound.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Additional certifications such as Fear Free or pain management training.
  • Strong communication skills for client education and team collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as blood draws, urinalysis, and radiography under supervision.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs and recovery progress post-procedure.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and update patient histories in the clinic’s database.
  • Educate pet owners on medication administration, nutrition, and general animal care.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and treatment areas.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and notify management when restocking is needed.
