Vessel Operations Officer Jobs (NOW HIRING)

• The keeping of a safe navigational watch as Watch Officer, as directed by the Captain and guided by applicable company procedures and standing orders.
• The safe and efficient execution of cargo operations, loading and stability, stowage and securing, ballast (in accordance with the Ballast Management Plan) and anchoring operations.
• Security of watertight compartments and maintenance of all external aspects of the vessel.
• Ensuring that the Captain is informed immediately of any condition or incident that arises as per standing instructions.
• Ensuring that no major action will be undertaken or executed without informing the Captain or, where applicable, the Superintendent and Chief Engineer.
• Directing the Bosun / AB Seamen and organizing the planned maintenance of the vessel and mechanical equipment in areas under his jurisdiction (The Chief Officer should liaise with the Captain and the Chief Engineer in this respect).
• Ensuring potable water tanks are kept in good condition by regular inspections, water test samples and dosage treatment of water (may be done by Chief Engineer on some vessels).
• Making sure that specific knowledge and experience is communicated to and shared with all people in the department.
• Ensuring that all navigational charts and publications are corrected up-to- date and navigational warnings displayed, if so delegated by the Captain.
• Ensuring that navigation / DP equipment is operational and maintained.
• Monitoring of the survey department during project activities.
• Performing emergency duties in accordance with the vessel's Muster List / Station Bill.
• Depending on the vessel, maintenance of the Ships Lifting Register, inspection, maintenance and certification of cranes (in conjunction with the Chief Engineer) and certified rigging.
• Supervision of all maintenance required for the safe and efficient operation of all lifesaving appliances (including lifeboats), fire appliances and watertight integrity as required by SOLAS and I or Flag State of Class.
• Conducting regular drills covering internal and external emergencies.
• Assisting the EHS Advisor with all Safety, Health and Environmental related activities.
• Ensuring operations involving hazardous substances are properly conducted and supervised (in conjunction with the EHS Advisor).
• Ensuring correct preparation and issuing of Work Permits, paying particular attention to detail and precautionary measures to be taken as outlined by the procedures in Company Manuals.
• Ensuring work sites under his jurisdiction are properly prepared and that equipment and tools are suitable for the work and in good condition.
• Ensuring that all work carried out by members of the Deck department is properly assessed for risk prior to commencement; that all hazards are identified and adequate safeguards are put in place (JSA).
• Participating as a member of the vessel Safety Committee, if so appointed.
• Acting as DP Operator or stand-by DP Operator as directed by the Captain.
• Ensuring that all relevant parties are kept fully informed of vessel movements and activities.
• Deploying DP reference systems as required by the operation in hand.
• Maintaining a personal log of his DP experience which is to be approved by the Captain.
• Ensuring that DP logbooks and checklists are correctly completed.
• Reporting and recording of DP equipment defects and DP incidents.
• Complete other duties and/or projects as required and assigned by management.

• Education /Training: The Chief Officer shall be qualified in accordance with STCW 95 Regulation 11/2. In possession of valid DP license.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience as Chief Officer, 2nd Officer on a DP operated pipelay or construction vessel.
• Skills: Good management skills. Fluent in both verbal and written English. Computer literate.
• Special Requirements:
• Additional requirements are contained in the Vessel Qualifications and Training Matrix appropriate to each vessel.
• The Chief Officer is second in command of the vessel and shall carry out the duties of the Captain in their absence. The Chief Officer has the authority to take any action necessary in the first instance (in the absence of the Captain) to ensure the safety of the vessel, personnel and the protection of the marine environment. They have the authority to veto the start, or order the termination of any operations, including subsea operations and should communicate and coordinate such decisions with the Superintendent or relevant Supervisor.

The Chief Officer coordinates with the Captain, Chief Engineer, Superintendent, or any other relevant Crew Member necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel. The Chief Officer may also liaise with the Onshore EHS Manager.

Decision Making: The Chief Officer may additionally perform the duties of Senior DPO or DPO where required. They may also hold the position of Ship Security Officer, as required by the ISPS Code, if so designated in the Ship Security Plan.
