Overview

Summary:

The Deckhandย (Seasonalย Position)ย assistsย with vessel operations, ensuring proper maintenance and adherence to emergency procedures for the safety of the vessel and its passengers. This role requires flexibility to work on an as-needed basis, supporting operations as required by theย General Manager.ย 

Pay:

$23.00- $25.00


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Handle lines for docking and undocking operationsย 
  • Assistย with taking on fuel and waterย 
  • Manage gangway handling and trash removalย 
  • Perform basic vessel and engine maintenanceย 
  • Act as a key crew member in implementing emergency procedures, adhering to the emergency checklist, and explaining any deviationsย 
  • Apply knowledge ofย initialย actions for man overboard and vessel flooding scenariosย 
  • Participate in crew training and periodic emergency drillsย 
  • Provide assistanceย and information to passengers as neededย 
  • Maintain cooperative and professional relationships with crew members and other employeesย 

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply emergency and fire regulations, emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and systems applicable to vessel operationย ย ย 
  • Knowledge of proper vessel handling and docking techniquesย 
  • Basic understanding of vessel maintenance practicesย ย ย 
  • Excellent communication and customer service skillsย ย 
  • Skill inย establishingย and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employeesย 
  • Ability to work directly with the public, providing information andย assistanceย dailyย ย 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalentย ย ย 
  • One (1) to two (2) years of maritime industry experienceย ย ย 
  • Current CPR and first aid certificationsย 
  • Ability to pass required drug testingย ย 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previousย experience on a passenger vesselย 

Working Conditions

Vessel with a passenger capacity up to 100. Exposure to inclement weather conditions and potential rough seas. Physically fit to perform strenuous work and able toย lift upย to 50 lbs. on an ongoing basis. Must be able toย lift upย to 80 lbs. on an occasional basis.
