FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a CNC Machinist to produce precision-machined components by setting up and operating horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers. This permanent, 2nd shift role is responsible for interpreting blueprints, setting up 3 and 4-axis CNC mills, verifying machined part accuracy, troubleshooting machining issues, making real-time adjustments, maintaining production records, and supporting quality, documentation, and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of CNC machining experience, strong setup and operation skills, Fanuc controller experience, blueprint reading ability, and experience working with tight tolerances in a precision machining environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Setting up and operating horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers
  • Producing precision-machined components according to quality and documentation standards
  • Interpreting blueprints and work instructions
  • Setting up and operating 3 and 4-axis CNC mills with correct fixturing, tooling, and parameters
  • Producing compliant precision-machined parts
  • Verifying machined part accuracy using precision measuring tools and equipment
  • Following documented quality plans
  • Troubleshooting machining issues and making real-time adjustments to improve performance and accuracy
  • Supporting machining process optimization for efficiency and precision
  • Training and mentoring junior machinists as needed
  • Sharing machining knowledge and best practices with team members
  • Maintaining detailed production records
  • Complying with quality assurance and safety protocols
  • Performing routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting to help prevent downtime
  • Maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
  • Following manufacturer instructions and calling for repairs as needed
  • Documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs between shifts
  • Maintaining regular on-time attendance
  • Adhering to company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
  • Working with micrometers, measuring instruments, and related inspection tools
  • Working with CMM lab support as needed to complete checks
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area
  • Supporting overtime on Fridays or half-day Saturdays as needed
  • Performing other tasks as directed

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • Minimum 7+ years of CNC machining experience required
  • CNC setup experience required
  • CNC operation experience required
  • Experience optimizing CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers required
  • Vertical machining center experience required
  • Horizontal machining center experience preferred
  • 3 and 4-axis CNC mill experience required
  • Fanuc controller experience required
  • Experience with Haas or Matsuura equipment preferred
  • No lathe experience required
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining and programming principles
  • Ability to edit or write basic machining macros preferred
  • Ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot machining problems during approval or production processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints required
  • Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing required
  • GD&T class or training preferred
  • Experience with tight tolerances required
  • Aluminum machining experience strongly preferred
  • Precision machining experience preferred
  • Low-volume production or prototyping experience preferred
  • Experience with government contracting or military application work preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong attention to detail required
  • Reliable attendance required
  • Ability to work onsite in East Syracuse, NY
  • Ability to work 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM
  • Ability to work overtime on Fridays or half-day Saturdays as needed
  • Ability to train on 1st shift before moving to 2nd shift as needed
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to ITAR requirements
  • Ability to support a full-time, permanent opportunity

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and remain on feet for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, bend, and move throughout the manufacturing and machining areas as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds as needed
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for CNC machine operation, setup, tooling, fixturing, measurement, documentation, and standard machining tasks
  • Ability to work with CNC mills, machining centers, precision measuring tools, micrometers, tooling, fixtures, aluminum materials, and related shop equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints, work instructions, GD&T requirements, quality plans, production records, and computer screens as needed
  • Ability to visually inspect precision-machined parts and verify accuracy using measuring tools and equipment
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment while following safety policies, PPE requirements, and housekeeping standards
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, focus, and attention to detail while working with tight tolerances and precision-machined components

Salary Range: $27 to $36/hour plus 10% 2nd shift differential
