Vertech information

What types of projects do automation engineers at Vertech typically work on, and how collaborative are these projects?

Automation engineers at Vertech frequently work on designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems across industries such as water/wastewater, manufacturing, and energy. Projects are highly collaborative, often involving cross-functional teams of engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver custom automation solutions. You can expect to participate in regular team meetings, coordinate with field technicians, and interact directly with clients to ensure project requirements are met. This environment fosters continuous learning and provides exposure to a variety of technologies and industries, supporting both professional development and career growth.

What is a Vertech and what do they do?

Vertech typically refers to a company specializing in industrial automation and control systems, rather than a specific job title. Professionals at Vertech work on designing, integrating, and maintaining systems that help automate manufacturing processes, water treatment plants, and other industrial facilities. Their work involves programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), developing SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and providing solutions for improving efficiency, safety, and reliability in industrial operations. Vertech employees often collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver custom automation solutions tailored to specific industry needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Vertech Automation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Vertech Automation Engineer, you need strong knowledge of control systems, PLC programming, and industrial automation, typically supported by an engineering degree or relevant technical certifications. Familiarity with platforms like Rockwell Automation, Ignition SCADA, and HMI design software is commonly required. Problem-solving, effective communication, and teamwork are important soft skills for managing projects and collaborating with clients. These skills ensure the delivery of reliable automation solutions, efficient project execution, and customer satisfaction in industrial environments.

What is the difference between Vertech vs Electrical Technician?

AspectVertechElectrical Technician
CertificationsTypically requires electrical or industrial certificationsRequires electrical certifications, such as NEC or state licenses
Work EnvironmentIndustrial plants, manufacturing facilities, power plantsConstruction sites, maintenance facilities, manufacturing plants
Job FocusInstallation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial equipment and systemsInstallation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and components
Industry UsageCommon in power, manufacturing, and industrial sectorsWidespread across construction, manufacturing, and maintenance industries

Vertech and Electrical Technicians share overlapping skills in electrical systems, but Vertech roles often focus on industrial automation and large-scale systems, while Electrical Technicians handle general electrical maintenance and installation. Both roles require electrical certifications and work in industrial or construction environments, but their specific duties and industry focus differ.

Position Overview
LGES-Vertech is seeking a highly motivated Senior Data Scientist to join our AI & Data Science team. This role will be a key driver in the research, design, and deployment of our Battery State Estimation algorithms. You will act as a subject matter expert, applying advanced ML/Data Science and statistical techniques to estimate the state of the BESS assets.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a technically deep and creative problem-solver. You will directly influence how data science enhances the commercial value, availability, and performance of our BESS(Battery Energy Storage System) fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the end-to-end development of battery state estimation algorithms, such as State of Energy/Charge/Power/Health, all the way from initial R&D and prototyping to production deployment.
  • Utilize a deep understanding of BESS, from individual cell level physics to system level topology and state estimation metrics.
  • Design, build, and deploy AI/ML State estimation models for predicting energy availability, critical for optimal BESS trading strategies.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, energy market analysts, engineering, and DevOps, to define requirements, integrate models into production pipelines, and deliver scalable, cloud-integrated data products.
  • Stay abreast of state-of-the-art AI/ML and deep learning techniques published in literature.
  • Lead the transition of AI/ML models from research to production, ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient software development practices.
  • Leverage expertise in efficiently handling large-scale, noisy battery data.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for junior team members, contributing to the strategic technical roadmap for the AI/Data Science team.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or applied ML, with at least 3 years industry experience.
  • Strong Python development skills, including production-grade software practices and modular codebases.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning (supervised and unsupervised), deep learning, and statistical modeling.
  • Hands-on experience working with large-scale, imperfect datasets and tools such as Polars, Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, SQL.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks, or Snowflake.
  • Comfortable in Linux environments and with version control systems like Git.
  • Proficiency in using Jira for Agile project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse global teams.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related quantitative discipline.
