What is a verification associate?

Verification Associates are professionals responsible for confirming the accuracy and authenticity of information, such as employment history, educational qualifications, or personal details, often as part of a background check process. They typically work for companies that provide verification services or within HR departments of organizations. Their role involves gathering data from various sources, verifying documents, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations. Attention to detail and strong communication skills are important in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a verification associate, and why are they important?

A Verification Associate requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and a background in data entry or compliance, often supported by a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with verification software, databases, background screening tools, and proficiency in spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel are typically essential. What are some common challenges faced by verification associates, and how can they be managed effectively?

Verification Associates often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines, handling high volumes of data, and resolving discrepancies in documentation. To manage these effectively, it's important to develop strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication with both internal teams and external contacts. Utilizing checklists and digital tools can also help streamline processes and ensure accuracy. Collaborating closely with team members and seeking clarification when needed can make the verification process smoother and more efficient.

Full-Time Insurance Verification Coordinator

At St. Francis Surgery Center, we believe health and care are inseparable. We are committed to providing a high-quality, service-oriented environment where patients receive exceptional surgical care in a safe, efficient, and compassionate setting.

Our facility is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and is a physician-owned ambulatory surgery center. We offer advanced surgical technology and support a wide range of specialties, allowing our physicians to deliver outstanding patient care.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, knowledge of insurance processes, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient service.

Please note: this role requires in-person attendance at the center.
Responsibilities
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket responsibilities prior to scheduled procedures.
  • Obtain required prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications to ensure procedures are approved before the date of service.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, physician offices, and patients to resolve coverage issues and insurance discrepancies.
  • Educate patients regarding estimated financial responsibility, including copays, deductibles, and non-covered services.
  • Collaborate with scheduling, clinical, business office, and physician office staff to ensure all insurance requirements are met and procedures proceed as scheduled.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, authorization information, and insurance verification documentation within applicable systems.
  • Monitor authorization and verification activities to help prevent insurance denials and reimbursement delays.
  • Assist with the investigation and resolution of insurance-related denials, authorization discrepancies, and payer issues in collaboration with the billing team.
  • Support smooth patient registration, check-in, and revenue cycle processes through timely and accurate insurance verification.
  • Perform additional clerical and administrative duties as assigned to support business office operations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in insurance verification, patient registration, medical billing, or revenue cycle operations required.
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and authorization requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and practice management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center environment.
