Job description

We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to support and enhance a complex municipal technology environment in Florida. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for a hands-on systems specialist who can manage core infrastructure, strengthen platform reliability, and help maintain secure and efficient operations across on-premises and cloud-based systems. The role blends server administration, virtualization, backup oversight, network support, and technical collaboration with a broader IT team.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily administration of core infrastructure platforms, including servers, storage systems, endpoint devices, backups, cloud resources, and network-connected equipment.
• Install, configure, and support technology solutions such as file services, database platforms, printers, communications tools, and application hosting environments.
• Manage and optimize virtualized infrastructure across VMware and OpenShift environments in both local and remote settings.
• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux server systems to ensure stable performance and consistent availability.
• Investigate software and hardware incidents, perform diagnostics, apply corrective actions, and escalate complex issues when additional technical support is needed.
• Safeguard infrastructure security by maintaining access controls, user environments, connected devices, wireless services, and related network components.
• Administer backup operations and disaster recovery readiness for enterprise systems while helping ensure business continuity objectives are met.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, including support procedures, troubleshooting guidance, configuration records, and operational manuals.
• Collaborate with IT staff on the design, deployment, and support of VPNs, switches, firewalls, routers, wireless networks, and other infrastructure improvements.
• Participate in on-call coverage, assist with cross-training efforts, and contribute recommendations on new technologies, upgrades, and replacement strategies.• Hands-on experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, including Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, and Linux server environments.
• Strong background with virtualization and platform administration, including VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, and OpenShift technologies.
• Experience managing backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam, along with storage platforms including SAN, NAS, and Azure Storage.
• Working knowledge of networking and security components such as VPNs, firewalls, switches, routers, wireless access, and mobile device management.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange, Citrix technologies, and general application or server support within a production environment.
• Ability to diagnose infrastructure issues, document findings clearly, and follow established support and resolution procedures.
• Certification in at least one relevant technology area, such as Veeam Certified Engineer, Red Hat OpenShift, or Azure solutions.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and collaborate closely with technical teams in a service-focused environment.
