Job description

U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated building maintenance services company, is seeking a Transportation Operator in Seaford, VA.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads District is seeking qualified Highway Maintenance Laborers to fill a vacancy at the Seaford Area Headquarters. Multiple positions will be filled from this Recruitment in the following Counties: James City and York. This is to be accomplished on a routine basis as outlined in the following responsibilities:
Duties include:
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of State roadways and their surrounding right of ways.
  • Operation of hand and power tools.
  • Performance of minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Wear proper personal protection equipment.
  • Maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA and VOSHA, etc.).
  • Utilize equipment properly and safely.
  • Ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
  • Follow VDOT safety regulations and practices.
  • Handles emergency operations, to include snow removal, storms, and accidental clean-up.
  • Participate as a working member of the crew to complete projects and accomplish objectives.
  • Perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion.
  • Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor and/or USF Senior Project Manager.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Equivalent experience or training may substitute for education.
  • CDL preferred but NOT required.

Experience/Skill Sets:
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and performing preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of performing roadway maintenance and construction activities.
  • Demonstrates experience in equipment operations comparable to that used in highway maintenance/construction activities.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including frequently lifting 50 pounds maximum.
  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and to respond to accidents, and emergency/disaster response, etc. during/after normal work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Conditions:
  • 90-day probation period.
  • Required VDOT/Industry Training
  • Potential for significant periods of sitting or standing.
  • May be subject to short or no-notice work assignments.
  • Monitored performance with routine evaluation.
  • Occasional interaction with the public/media.
