Job description

Engineering data centers with precision and expertise.
At Strategic Mission Critical, we are more than just engineers; we are experts focusing solely on mission critical facilities. Our seasoned leadership team brings together decades of experience, equipping data center providers worldwide with robust, reliable solutions that keep pace with the evolving digital landscape.
As demand for high-performance infrastructure accelerates - fueled by AI and the expanding digital landscape - SMC continues to lead through technical rigor and operational excellence. We're seeking leaders who think beyond projects to improve the way we deliver them: individuals who elevate people, process, and performance across the firm.
Summary:
Strategic Mission Critical is seeking a Project Designer to join our growing Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) team supporting some of the world's most advanced mission critical facilities.
This role is ideal for an early-career professional with prior industry experience who is looking to further develop their Revit, BIM, and VDC skillsets while working alongside experienced designers and coordinators.
You'll gain exposure to large-scale data center projects while building technical modeling and coordination expertise in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
If you're looking to grow beyond basic drafting and become part of a team that supports projects from design through construction, we'd love to connect.
What You'll Do
  • Utilize Autodesk Revit to support the production of 3D models and construction/shop drawings
  • Assist with modeling efforts across electrical discipline projects
  • Learn and apply VDC best practices to project execution
  • Assist with drawing setup, sheet production, view creation, and model organization
  • Interpret engineering and construction drawings and incorporate design intent into project models
  • Participate in coordination meetings and support project deliverables
  • Assist with project documentation, RFIs, and project tracking activities
  • Maintain model quality and adherence to established standards and procedures
  • Collaborate with senior team members to develop technical and coordination skills

What We're Looking For
  • 1+ years of professional experience in VDC, BIM, drafting, design, construction technology, engineering, or a related field
  • Professional experience using Autodesk Revit required
  • Experience supporting the production of construction documents, models, or project deliverables
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

Preferred Experience:
  • Exposure to Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM 360, or similar tools preferred
  • Exposure to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or construction environments preferred
  • Passion for technology, construction, and continuous improvement

Why SMC:
Compensation:
  • $65,000 / year

Benefits: SMC offers a competitive benefits package, with a 36-hour standard work week, hybrid working arrangement, 13 paid holidays, 100% coverage of medical, health, and dental insurance premiums for our full-time employees, and reimbursement of professional licensing costs. Spouse and family insurance premiums are subsidized by SMC. All full-time employees are additionally eligible for employer-sponsored life and long-term disability insurance as well as participation in our 401(k) plan, with annual safe harbor contribution.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
