This often involves helping to refine business models, optimize go-to-market strategies, recruit key executives, and implement best practices in areas such as sales, marketing, and product development. What are VC Operating Partners?

Operating Partners often have backgrounds in management, entrepreneurship, or specific industries relevant to the VC firm's focus.

Job description

A Career with Point72's Tax team
Point72's Tax team sits at the center of a sophisticated global investment platform, overseeing tax compliance and planning across 30+ hedge funds, 75+ private equity and management companies, high-net-worth individuals, and tax-exempt organizations.
The team partners closely with Big Four accounting firms and leading external advisors to manage the preparation and review of partnership, corporate, individual, international, and state tax filings. Beyond compliance, the group leads tax research, planning initiatives, and firmwide projects, collaborating across the organization to address complex tax issues in a dynamic investment environment.
What you'll do
As a member of the Private Equity and Venture Capital (PEVC) Tax team, you will focus on fund and investment-level tax matters and deepen your experience in private equity and venture capital taxation. Specifically, you will:
  • Assist the PEVC Tax team with all aspects of the tax compliance process including but not limited to operating companies, family partnerships, private equity, and venture capital funds
  • Review tax return extensions, federal and state income tax returns, and investor Schedule K-1s for private equity venture capital funds and related entities, coordinating with external service providers as needed
  • Gain exposure to ad-hoc consulting and analysis on matters such as fund and investment structuring, carried interest, waterfall allocations, partner economics, and transaction-related tax considerations, as required
  • Prepare and/or review tax workpapers, with a focus on designing and implementing an automated process
  • Collect, review, and draft materials in response to audits conducted by domestic (U.S.), federal and state, and international taxing authorities
  • Support the team with tax research and analysis on day-to-day issues impacting PE/VC funds and related entities
  • Work in a collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves environment, bringing a sense of urgency and attention to detail to requests and projects
  • Assist in automating and enhancing processes related to the preparation and review of tax workpapers, supporting schedules, and forms through the use of Point72's internal proprietary tax technology and through the build-out and/or integration of new systems

What's required
  • 3-5 years of experience in U.S. taxation, ideally with exposure to partnership taxation and investment funds (private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, or similar)
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Experience with partnership tax concepts, including allocations, capital accounts, investor reporting, and tiered partnership structures
  • CPA license or concrete roadmap to obtain licensure
  • Proven track record of automation initiatives and focus on advancing technology
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Commitment to the highest ethical standards

We take care of our people
We invest in our people, their careers, their health, and their well-being. When you work here, we provide:
  • Fully-paid health care benefits
  • Generous parental and family leave policies
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Support for employee-led affinity groups representing women, people of color and the LGBT+ community
  • Mental and physical wellness programs
  • Tuition assistance
  • A 401(k) savings program with an employer match and more
