Energy Vault Solution, a division within Energy Vault, is dedicated to delivering customer-focused energy storage products that merge Battery and Clean Hydrogen technologies. The Energy Vault Solution team also develops and manages our AI/ML powered software applications that include EMS, Lifecycle Management, and Energy Trading Platforms.
Your Impact as a Intern, Power Electronics Engineering:
We are looking for a power electronics student intern with strong power system focus specialized in one of the contemporary research areas including, but not limited to energy storage, data center, DC systems, microgrid, solid-state transformer, advanced grid-interactive inverters.
In this role, you will gain practical and technical experience on cutting-edge energy storage and data center technologies while working closely with industry experts to simulate, analyze and troubleshoot complex systems from inverter control to large scale site level controls.
This role is estimated to be 3 months in duration with 40 hours per week.
Your Mission:
  • Help design and perform verification tests in the EMT simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to determine system requirements and verify our solution will meet and exceed project requirements.

Your Background:
  • Pursuing a Current Masters or Ph.D. degree with relevant research focus with solid power systems/power electronics background.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy, energy storage and data center industry.
  • Technical knowledge of grid-forming, grid-following inverters, power plant controller, DC/DC converters and solid-state transformers.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, preferably OPAL-RT or other platforms such as Typhoon and RTDS.
  • Experience working on PSCAD, PSS/E and other power system modeling software.
  • Experience with designing, testing, analyzing, evaluating power electronics systems (AC/DC and DC/DC converters).
  • Experience in testing inverter control board gate drivers and protection circuits.
  • Familiarity with power semiconductor devices SiC and IGBT.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as UL 1741, IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink, embedded control design experience in C/C++ preferably with TI C2000 DSP.
  • Experience in voltage source inverter control interfaces such as PWM, ADC; communication interfaces IPC, CAN, ETH.
  • No travel is required.

$30 - $35 an hour
The salary range, $30.00 to $35.00, reflects the target new hire hourly rate for the position across all U.S. locations.
$30 per hour, enrolled in a Master's program.
$35 per hour, enrolled in a PhD program.
