Job description

Merchants Bank, Winona, has an opening for a Wire Transfer & Vault Operations Specialist.  The hours for this position will generally be Monday through Friday between 8am – 5pm.

This position serves as a primary resource for branch personnel by providing support for branch cash operations, including vault and ATM cash.   In addition, they are engaged in wire transfer operations, assist with ATM hardware support, and various other operational activities while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and exceptional customer service.

2 years of Teller and vault experience desired.  Must have excellent communication and customer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Excel.  This position requires the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work independently.  Strong analytical and organization skills required.

Essential Duties:

Branch Cash & Vault Operations

  • Manage branch currency and coin ordering, deposit processing, forecasting, and reconciliation activities through the Bank’s virtual vault environment.
  • Process Federal Reserve cash transactions and maintain appropriate branch cash inventory levels.
  • Monitor branch cash activity, resolve exceptions, and promote adherence to established procedures.
  • Provide training and support to ensure consistent cash handling practices across all locations.

 

Wire Transfer & Payment Operations

  • Process domestic and international wire transfers in accordance with Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and resolve wire transfer, ACH, and electronic payment exceptions and inquiries.
  • Prepare assigned regulatory and operational reports, including FR 2900 reporting.

 

Branch Support

  • Manage inventory and distribution of cashier’s checks, gift cards, travel cards, and other assigned branch supplies.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of Teller equipment (currency counters, coin machines and drive up equipment as well as ATM’s.  Work with vendors to ensure timely issue resolution.

 

Balancing and Reconciliations

  • Perform general ledger and account reconciliations, researching and resolving balancing differences.
  • Balance ATM cash
  • Monitor Federal Reserve account balances and support daily funding activities.
  • Escalate reconciliation, funding, or operational concerns as appropriate.

 

Customer & Administrative Support

  • Process customer verification requests, audit confirmations, and other operational service requests.
  • Administer Social Security direct deposit setup and related account maintenance activities.
  • Provide prompt, professional, and accurate service to internal and external customers.

  • Complete required compliance, security, and product knowledge training within established timeframes.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned based on business needs.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • 2 years Teller/Vault experience desired.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business applications.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and support operational excellence.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Climate-controlled office environment with a low noise level. The position requires extensive work on a computer system and regular use of banking and payment-processing applications.  Work will be performed predominately sitting at a desk, very low degree of lifting. Lifting will generally not require over 35 pounds in weight. Position will require average finger dexterity to operate normal office equipment, such as computer, calculator, etc.  Requires ability to articulate clearly.

Relationships:

Will have extensive contact with Finance, Treasury Management and Branch staff. Will have telephone contact with Federal Reserve, Correspondent Banks and customers to assist with a variety of matters and must interact in a professional manner. The employee will be expected to contribute to a positive working environment and have excellent communication skills.  Responsible to the Specialized Services Manager in Deposit Operations for the fulfillment of functions, responsibilities, and authority, and for their proper interpretation.
