Job description

The Ardsley School District is seeking a highly qualified and experienced leader to serve as Varsity Football Head Coach. This position requires a dynamic individual who understands the comprehensive role of interscholastic athletics in shaping student-athletes and building a strong school community.

The successful candidate will lead all aspects of the football program, establishing a clear vision that emphasizes competitive excellence, character development, and alignment with the educational mission of the school. The Head Coach is responsible for developing a cohesive program across all levels and fostering a culture built on positivity, accountability, discipline, sportsmanship and respect.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive knowledge of football fundamentals, systems, and program development
  • Previous successful experience as a head or assistant coach at the high school or collegiate level
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and mentor coaching staff
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proven commitment to student-athlete development, both academically and athletically
  • Ability to build and sustain a positive, inclusive, and competitive program culture
  • Interested candidates should possess or be willing to obtain the necessary coaching certification requirements from NYSED.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Varsity Football Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, and direction of the football program. This includes oversight of all levels (Varsity, JV, Modified), development of coaching staff, implementation of program philosophy, and ensuring alignment with district and athletic department expectations. The Head Coach serves as the primary representative of the football program and plays a critical role in promoting school pride and community engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Leadership & Development

  • Establish and communicate a clear vision, philosophy, and expectations for the entire football program
  • Oversee and coordinate all levels of the program to ensure continuity in teaching, terminology, and player development
  • Lead and mentor assistant and sub-varsity coaches

Instruction & Team Management

  • Plan, organize, and implement all varsity practices, games, and team activities
  • Develop game strategies, evaluate performance, and make program adjustments as needed
  • Ensure proper supervision and safety of student-athletes at all times

Student-Athlete Development

  • Promote academic accountability and monitor student-athlete eligibility, attendance, and conduct
  • Serve as a positive role model, emphasizing sportsmanship, leadership, and character development
  • Create a culture that prioritizes team unity, discipline, and respect

Compliance & Operations

  • Ensure compliance with all district policies and regulations set by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA)
  • Follow all procedures related to injuries, medical clearance, and emergency protocols

Communication & Community Engagement

  • Maintain consistent and professional communication with student-athletes, families, staff, and administration
  • Represent the football program in a positive manner within the school and broader community
  • Support and contribute to athletic department initiatives and events
