Holland Public Schools is located in Holland, Michigan. The district has four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school and has an enrollment of approximately 3000 students. We offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish in grades K-8. Holland Public Schools has a diverse student population with approximately 47% Latinx, 9% Black, 6% Multiracial, 3 % Asian and 35% White and approximately 64% free and reduced lunch.

PRIMARY JOB GOAL: The School Van Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and sporting events. The primary focus is maintaining a safe, respectful, and supervised environment within the vehicle while strictly adhering to all traffic laws and school district policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
  1. Drive designated routes to pick up and drop off students at scheduled stops.
  2. Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (checking tires, lights, brakes, oil, and fuel) to ensure the van is in safe operating condition.
  3. Maintain order and discipline among passengers; report any behavioral incidents to school administration.
  4. Ensure all students are properly secured (seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair tie-downs where applicable) and follow emergency evacuation procedures.
  5. Keep the interior of the van clean and sanitized; report any mechanical malfunctions to the maintenance department immediately.
  6. Maintain accurate logs of mileage, fuel consumption, student attendance, and any incidents or delays.
  7. Maintain regular, consistent, and timely attendance.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal and the Director of Transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Valid Michigan driver's license and Chauffeur's license.
  2. A clean driving record with minimal to no points or recent suspensions.
  3. Must pass a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and drug/alcohol screening.
  4. Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical or similar medical examination.
  5. Strong communication and patience with children.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, read printed materials and a computer screen, and communicate in person or over the telephone. May be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
