Value Added Manager

 

Function

The Value Added Manager is responsible for overseeing all production activities within the Value Added department, ensuring performance in volume, quality, cost control, and schedule adherence. This role manages daily operations, personnel assignments, equipment readiness, and compliance with sanitation, safety, and labor standards. The Value Added area produces consumerready products for major grocery and department retailers, ranging from Multivacpackaged tenderloins to oxtails. With a diverse product lineup, this position requires strong product knowledge, packaging expertise, and the ability to manage a highvolume, fastpaced environment. The department currently operates three Multivac machines and includes approximately 80 team members.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of Value Added production and its P&L across both shifts
  • Ensure product quality, yields, and presentation meet required specifications
  • Lead and develop department supervisors
  • Maintain a safe work environment and motivate all employees
  • Verify that all products leaving the line meet customer and regulatory specifications
  • Complete preoperational paperwork and ensure the line is properly cleaned and sanitized
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet production demands
  • Prepare and manage employee paperwork for all team members
  • Adapt to frequent changes in product mix and cut specifications based on demand
  • Understand and adhere to all union regulations for hourly employees
  • Participate in fabrication area meetings and provide operational input
  • Deliver followup training for all personnel working on the line
  • Conduct evaluations for newly hired employees during their first month
  • Administer disciplinary procedures for hourly employees as needed
  • Maintain a strong floor presence; role requires extensive walking
  • Manage potential hazards including knives, ammonia, slippery floors, high noise levels, and cold temperatures
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of packing house experience with strong understanding of product types and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of product standards, packaging requirements, and production processes
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to motivate and develop employees
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required
