Job description

Grand Canyon University is seeking a Assistant Coach to support the mission of Grand Canyon University through GCU's Esports department

Purpose within the organization:The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach and players to improve team performance, strengthen communication and coordination, develop individual and team fundamentals, and prepare the roster for competitive matches.Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Development
  • Assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing team practice plans.
Match Preparation
  • Assist with preparation for upcoming competitive matches and tournaments.
VOD & Gameplay Analysis
  • Review team and individual VODs to identify tactical and mechanical issues.
Practice & Match Support
  • Attend scheduled team practices and competitive matches as required.
  • Assist with organizing scrimmages and structured practice sessions.
Player Support
  • Build positive professional relationships with players.
  • Encourage accountability, teamwork, communication, and a growth mindset.
QualificationsRequired
  • Strong knowledge of competitive VALORANT.
  • Understanding of core tactical concepts including team communication, utility usage, map control, rotations, trading, economy management, and site execution.
  • Experience playing or coaching in a competitive esports environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to give constructive criticism in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to analyze gameplay and identify actionable improvements.
  • Reliable attendance and strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching and management staff.
  • Valid Drivers License and Clean Driving Record

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor's program or Master's program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fail below the minimum requirements.
