Corrosion Control Specialist
Contingent Upon Receipt of DBIDs
Purpose:
  • Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for multiple openings for a Corrosion Control Specialist in our Mayport, Florida location who will be a key support in performing Corrosion Control on Naval and Commercial Ships.
Job Description:
  • Perform corrosion control and preservation on Naval Vessels in tanks, compartments and hulls utilizing specialized coating applications.
  • Prepare all types of surfaces for preservation.
  • Complete work within the requirements of NAVSEA Standards.
  • Remove old paint and debris from all types of substrates by scraping, chipping, and sanding.
  • Apply coatings in accordance with specifications and good marine practice.
  • Brush and Roll painting to pass all inspection processes.
  • Perform Confined Space Attendant duties to include establishing a communication system with entrants, know potential hazards faced during entry, watch for behavioral effects such as heat exhaustion or disorientation, keep an accurate count and list of names of personnel working in the space.
  • Must be able to work under general supervision and perform standard work that is dependent on the corrosion control, and confined space duties.
  • Ability to work from drawings, technical manuals and receive instructions on semi-routine and difficult assignments.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and machinery to perform the corrosion and coating applications.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasking and meet critical deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a Highschool Diploma or equivalent and/or trade school with work experience.
  • Must have strong knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and control methods.
  • Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have effective communication and leadership abilities
  • Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have knowledge of painting techniques and materials.
  • Must have previous experience in painting or a related field.
  • Must have knowledge of different types of paint and their applications
Desired Qualifications:
  • Highschool education or trade school with at least 4 years of industrial related experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in surface preparation or a related field
  • 2 years of experience in corrosion control or related field in painting is preferred.
  • Prefer to have knowledge with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910,1915, 1923.
  • Prefer to have knowledge with NAVSEA STD Item 009-32, 009-74, SSPC-1.
  • Prefer to have the ability to obtain a passport.
Security Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards, and naval installations.
  • Must have a REAL ID. (Must be obtained before start date)
Travel Requirements:
  • Moderate travel required: 25% - 30%
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
  • Repetitive motion, Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Picking, Grasping, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity (depth perception).
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), subject to noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions (affect the respiratory system), frequently work in close quarters and/or function in narrow aisles or passageways (areas that could cause claustrophobia).
  • Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
