Practice opportunity

As a Physician Radiologist at the Dayton VA Medical Center, you will provide a full range of diagnostic radiology services in support of a comprehensive, integrated health care system. You will collaborate closely with referring providers, technologists, and clinical teams to assure high-quality imaging, timely reports, and excellent patient-centered care for Veterans.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing clinical oversight of contrast and other imaging-related medications, and serving as a resource for radiation and MRI safety.

• Participating in infection control, quality assurance, peer review, protocol review, and performance improvement activities.

• Interpreting imaging studies with comparison to prior exams and correlation with clinical information, and generating clear, clinically useful reports with impressions and recommendations.

• Supporting patient care with timely communication of critical or time-sensitive results using appropriate escalation methods.

• Consulting with referring clinicians on exam selection, imaging findings, and additional workup; participating in multidisciplinary conferences such as Tumor Board.

• Interacting directly with patients within the scope of radiology practice, including obtaining relevant clinical history, providing education, documenting in CPRS, and obtaining informed consent when indicated.

• Preferred experience: Body imaging fellowship training is preferred but not required.

Compensation and benefits

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package for physicians. Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine final compensation (Base Pay + Market Pay).

Highlights include:

• Highly competitive pay: Base salary range of $375,000–$400,000 per year, plus annual performance bonus and regular salary increases.

• Student loan reimbursement: Position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program, with potential awards up to $200,000 over 1–5 years (approval, amount, and period determined by VHA Education Loan Repayment Services).

• Sign-on incentive: Recruitment incentive (sign-on bonus) may be authorized.

• Robust paid time off: 50–55 days of paid time off annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and possible 5 days paid absence for CME.

• Retirement: Federal pension (with 5-year vesting) plus federal 401(k)-type plan with up to 5% employer contributions.

• Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care coverage, with many programs eligible to carry into retirement.

• Professional support: Possible $1,000 per year CME reimbursement (for full-time, board-certified physicians); free malpractice coverage with tail coverage.

• Flexibility: No physician employment contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.

Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (or as directed by the Therapeutic and Diagnostic Imaging Service Chief).

Telework: Limited telework may be available in accordance with agency policy.
