Job description

About the Opportunity

Monterey Medical is seeking experienced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to join our provider network performing Compensation & Pension (C&P) disability examinations for U.S. Veterans and separating service members.

This is a unique opportunity to serve those who have served our country by conducting comprehensive medical evaluations that support the Veterans Affairs (VA) disability claims process. These examinations are evaluation-only appointments with no treatment, prescribing, or follow-up care required.

Position Highlights

  1. Flexible scheduling with a minimum availability of 1 day per week

  2. Office space provided (providers are not required to have their own office)

  3. No ongoing patient management or treatment responsibilities

  4. Administrative support and patient scheduling provided

  5. Electronic documentation and report submission

  6. Meaningful work serving Veterans and military members

Responsibilities

  1. Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations for Veterans and separating military personnel

  2. Conduct comprehensive General Medical evaluations

  3. Complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and required medical documentation

  4. Perform focused physical examinations and assessments

  5. Submit examination findings electronically in a timely manner

  6. Maintain compliance with all program guidelines and quality standards

Qualifications

  1. Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license

  2. Ability to perform comprehensive General Medical examinations

  3. Comfortable conducting:

    • Musculoskeletal assessments, including range-of-motion testing

    • Limited neurologic examinations

    • Cardiopulmonary examinations

    • Pelvic examinations (when required)

  4. Ability to interpret:

    • Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs)

    • Electrocardiograms (ECGs/EKGs)

  5. Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills

  6. Previous Compensation & Pension examination experience is preferred but not required

Providers conduct medical evaluations only and do not:

  • Determine disability ratings

  • Make benefit decisions

  • Provide treatment plans
