MAJOR FUNCTION:

Translates core content for the bilingual student in order for them to understand classroom assignments and assists the teacher to understand the child's needs. Assist teachers with daily non-instructional activities, student management and parent/community needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Some college preferred.
  1. Ability to speak and understand one or more of following: standard Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and Ukrainian. Must speak and understand English fluently.
  2. Ability to speak and understand related dialects.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationshipswith students, staff and the community.
  4. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
  5. Ability to write simple correspondence in English and student's home language.
  6. Ability to effectively translate information one-on-one and in small group situations to students without bias.
  7. Previous experience working with non-speaking second language learner students.
  8. Maintains a good attendance record and is punctual.
  9. May need to work occasional after school hours.
  10. May need to attend parent conferences with parent and/or make home visits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Translate for the teacher to relay content information.
  2. Assist the teacher in translating from student's native language to English and English to native language.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
