What does a UX Associate do?

A UX Associate is an entry-level professional who assists in designing and improving the user experience for digital products such as websites and apps. They typically conduct user research, create wireframes and prototypes, and collaborate with designers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure products are user-friendly and meet business goals. Their responsibilities may also include analyzing user feedback and supporting usability testing to identify areas for improvement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a UX Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a UX Associate, you need a solid understanding of user research, wireframing, and usability principles, often supported by a degree in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field. Familiarity with design tools like Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD and knowledge of prototyping and user testing platforms are typically required. Strong collaboration, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication help you work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure that user-centered designs are created efficiently, leading to better user experiences and project outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by UX Associates when working on cross-functional teams?

UX Associates often collaborate with product managers, developers, and marketing teams, which can present challenges such as aligning differing priorities and communicating design decisions effectively. Balancing user needs with technical or business constraints requires strong negotiation and interpersonal skills. Being proactive in soliciting feedback, documenting your work, and staying adaptable can help overcome these challenges and ensure smooth project progress.

Are UX Associate jobs still in demand?

UX Associate roles remain in demand as companies prioritize user experience to stay competitive, especially with the growth of digital products and services. Skills in user research, wireframing, and familiarity with design tools like Figma or Adobe XD are valuable for these positions.

Is UI/UX a high paying job?

UI/UX design roles, including UX associates, can offer competitive salaries that vary based on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions typically have lower pay, while experienced designers with skills in tools like Figma or Adobe XD can earn higher salaries, especially in tech hubs or with specialized expertise.

ABOUT US
SharkNinja is a global product design and technology company, with a diversified portfolio
of 5-star rated lifestyle solutions that positively impact people's lives in homes around the
world. Powered by two trusted, global brands, Shark and Ninja, the company has a
proven track record of bringing disruptive innovation to market. Developing one consumer
product after another has allowed SharkNinja to enter multiple product categories, driving
significant growth and market share gains. Headquartered in Needham, Massachusetts,
the company's products are sold at key retailers, online and offline, and through

USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN AT SHARKNINJA
At SharkNinja, we work hard to provide our consumers with high quality, innovative, and
delightful products. We are passionate about user experience, and we are looking for
creative designers who think outside the box, embrace the latest technology, advocate for
our customers, and push the boundary of what's possible. Join us on our exciting journey
to shape the future of SharkNinja product experiences.
THE ROLE
We're seeking a talented and enthusiastic UX Designer to join our growing team and deliver compelling, easy, and delightful user experiences for our hardware products.
This role sits at the intersection of physical product and user experience. You'll design on-device UI and interaction flows with a relentless focus on the customer. You'll work with industrial design, product, and engineering across the full design process, from product concepts through prototyping, testing, tooling, engineering builds, and launch. In addition, you'll drive process improvements in HW UX design, for both new products and the extension of existing products to new markets, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to improve how we work and what we make.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Own the end-to-end user experience, interaction model, and on-product interfaces for a variety of new HW products, including the physical UI, displays, affordances, and feedback (haptic, audio, visual)
  • Partner with industrial design on UI placement, control feel, labeling, and ergonomics - consistently advocating for the user when manufacturing and cost pressure push the other way.
  • Work through hardware and technology constraints with colleagues in product and engineering to deliver experiences that are feasible, desirable, and viable.
  • Build and run usability testing on physical prototypes and turn findings into impactful and achievable design changes.
  • Document UI layouts, interaction specs, state diagrams, and UI asset packages that firmware and engineering teams can build from without ambiguity.
  • Explore and implement critical process improvements in how we design and document HW projects, using AI and other emerging technologies.
  • Contribute to a shared hardware UX design system, including interaction patterns, iconography, terminology, and display standards that scale across the portfolio.

ATTRIBUTES & SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in UI/UX Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years designing user experiences for physical products.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing relevant hardware UX design work.
  • Fluency designing inside hard constraints, such as display resolution and color depth, physical button counts, BOM cost, certification requirements, tooling timelines.
  • Hands-on usability research experience with physical prototypes, and the judgment to know when a finding warrants a design change.
  • Proven experience collaborating with teams across design, product and engineering.
  • Proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite; working familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Rhino is preferred.
  • Demonstrated fluency and enthusiasm with AI tools for concept exploration, asset production, process improvement, and documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment without compromising quality.

Salary and Other Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is displayed below. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
The Company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts (HSA) with company contribution, 401(k) retirement plan with matching, employee stock purchase program, life insurance, AD&D, short-term disability insurance, long-term disability insurance, generous paid time off, company holidays, parental leave, identity theft protection, pet insurance, pre-paid legal insurance, back-up child and eldercare days, product discounts, referral bonus program, and more.
