To thrive as a UW Health RN, you need a comprehensive understanding of clinical procedures, patient care, and evidence-based nursing practices, supported by an active RN license and often a BSN degree. Familiarity with Epic electronic health record systems, medication administration technologies, and hospital protocols is typically required. What are some common challenges UW Health RNs face when transitioning to working in a large academic medical center?

UW Health RNs often encounter challenges such as adapting to fast-paced, high-acuity patient care environments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams that include students, residents, and attending physicians. The academic setting also means frequent exposure to new protocols and evidence-based practices, requiring strong adaptability and ongoing learning. However, these challenges are balanced by opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and involvement in cutting-edge research and patient care.
