Job description

About the Role:

The Event Assistant plays a key role in bringing employer events to life at UVA. You'll be part of the Employer Relations Team, helping create a seamless, professional, and welcoming experience for recruiters while supporting students' access to career opportunities.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you are often the first and last impression employers have when they visit Grounds.

What You'll Do:

You'll support a wide range of employer-facing events, including information sessions, workshops, networking events, and career fairs.

Responsibilities:

Welcome employers and serve as their on-site point of contact
Assist with event setup, signage, and materials
Ensure technology (screens, Zoom, etc.) is functioning
Troubleshoot issues and keep events running smoothly
Stay present during events to support flow and timing
Collect recruiter contact information
Complete post-event summaries and feedback forms
Assist with career fairs and special projects

Schedule & Time Commitment:

Evening shifts (4:30 PM - 9:30 PM)
Must be available for multiple evenings per week
Occasional daytime shifts for special events
First 6-8 weeks of each semester are busiest
Work is shared across a team

Why This Role Matters:

Employer events are critical to connecting UVA students with opportunities. This role ensures a smooth experience for employers and supports strong partnerships.

*In addition to the job duties and responsibilities outlined below, this position will participate in a structured internship experience through the Internship Placement Program (IPP). If selected, interns must enroll in either UNST 3910 (1 cr.) or UNST 3920 (1 cr.). The courses are offered 9+ times during the fall, offering plenty of options to choose from.

Through this robust internship experience, students will receive dedicated career support from their supervisor and gain key skills and competencies that align with future job interests. The FWS Internship will look great on your resume and provide the student with impactful stories to share in interviews. TFWS Internships are best suited for students in their 2nd - 4th years.*

Compensation: $15/hr.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Education: Current UVA Student with Federal Work-Study Eligibility
Experience: No experience or previous training required. Perform routine tasks with minimal responsibility. Where applicable, position may require ability to interact with the general public.
Licensure: None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
