Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the project team to the overall successful completion of a specific project. These responsibilities include a level of engagement and ownership in the areas of scheduling, financial forecasting, operational planning and execution, mitigating all risks and ultimate support of the field operations.

Essential Functions

  • Contract management functions: Reviews design, contract and bid documents, bid analysis, reviews subcontracts and material contracts, permit processing
  • Communication functions: Conducts regular meetings with clients, subcontractors, vendors and key stakeholders to ensure clarity under the supervision of the Project Manager
  • Financial Management functions: Oversees project budget, maintains budgets and makes changes accordingly, monitors performance and analysis of cost and budget, shares information collaboratively with operations team
  • Operational Planning and Execution functions: Provides technical support to operations team, constructability reviews, offers technical information to the project team to ensure work complies with applicable codes, drawings and specifications, assists in pre-planning functions of the project
  • Scheduling functions: Oversees construction progress and schedule, collaborates with operations, subcontractors, vendors and clients to ensure clarity of overall project progress
  • Leadership functions: Delegates applicable tasks to team members according to their individual skill sets, experience and capabilities
  • Compliance functions: Assists with inspection and documentation of all work to assure compliance with plans, specifications and applicable regulations

Qualifications

  • Experience:2+ years of hands-on experience in heavy civil construction and/or a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering degree.
  • Operational Excellence:Proven ability to manage complex schedules, multitask under pressure, and prioritize tasks to keep projects on track. Must have previous heavy civil construction field-related experience in earthwork, grading, concrete structures, foundations, and underground utilities.
  • Technical Proficiency:Skilled in project controls systems and software. This includes document and cost control management, and scheduling (P6 or equivalent). Understanding of jobsite activities with knowledge in safety, environmental and quality aspects as it relates to laws, regulations, policies, permits and requirements. Ability to produce and analyze field-related production reports, accurate tracking of jobsite quantities, understanding of material specifications and procurements, and experience in the management and coordination of subcontractor scopes of work. Experience in developing detailed RFI's including the ability to thoroughly review project submittals for accuracy and compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Precision:Must have exceptional organizational skills, attention for detail with the ability to identify and resolve plan and specification related discrepancies.
  • Leadership & Communication:An energetic and proactive communicator who possesses the ability to integrate amongst team members internally and externally and maintains a solution-oriented attitude. Time and priority management with self-motivation towards achieving successful project solutions.
  • Mobility:Must possess a valid Driver's License for travel and site visits.

Working Conditions

  • Location: This position will work out of an assigned project location, within areas associated with the Ames Pacific Office located in Corona, CA. Project locations are throughout Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties, but not limited to future opportunities throughout California as they arise.
  • Travel: This role requires regular travel to and from project sites. Candidates must be willing and able to commute as required within the County geographies based on assigned project location.
  • Office Environment: extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally. / Construction Site Environment: physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Potential exposure to high noise levels.

  • Base salary range is $95,000-$125,000 a year, which varies depending on many factors, including experience, skills, and knowledge.
  • This role is eligible for a discretionary bonus.
