Description:

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Aviation service team in Appleton, Wisconsin or Madison, Wisconsin. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.


Our ideal candidate will have 3+ years of diverse roadway design experience. Candidates must have a willingness to perform a variety of tasks supporting various project types and project managers.


This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with an energetic aviation staff on a range of projects, including airport planning, airfield layout and design, safety plans, airfield civil design and construction, facilities design and infrastructure, and environmental studies. Westwood’s Aviation group has a diversified range of projects that require preparing a variety of civil engineering and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) planning reports, studies, and plans for large, complex projects in a timely and proficient manner to produce solutions that support our clients' success.


Requirements:
  • Work as a key member of a design team under the direction of various Project Managers. Job duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with a team in the preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects of various size and complexity
  • Prepare plan documents and supporting design calculations
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Produce high quality work and implement and maintain quality assurance procedures
  • Oversee the technical aspects of various projects
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, support services and subconsultants
  • Coordinate with government agencies, utility providers or other outside agencies
  • Coordinate with Clients depending on project role.
  • Identify applicable codes, standards or other design requirements
  • Prepare technical specifications and cost estimates
  • Perform field reviews and other assessments for use in design
  • Participate in contract bidding, provide limited observation during construction, review submittals and RFIs
  • Represent clients and firm in meetings with governmental agencies
  • Develop and track milestones to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery
  • Make decisions independently in regard to various issues and methods
  • Prioritize and manage own workload
  • Mentor, train and/or supervise the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel
  • Ensures division, regional, and company values, policies and practices are consistently followed within the survey service
  • Lead by example – display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of aviation planning, programming, design and construction is a plus.
  • Preferred candidate will have working experience with FAA Advisory Circulars and an understanding of Bureau of Aeronautics policies and procedures.
  • Outgoing, friendly, approachable
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet project deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Autodesk Civil3D, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient in the use of national design standards (MUTCD, AASHTO, etc.)
  • Proficient in applying ADA/PROWAG criteria in public infrastructure design
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
  • Ability to delegate assignments and determine methods and procedures

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Wisconsin (or capable of obtaining within 6 months)
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering preferred
