Job description

Utility Systems Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  1. System Operations: Oversee the daily operation of plant utilities, including chilled/purified water, vacuum pumps, nitrogen generation, compressed air, and heating systems.
  2. Maintenance: Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs using CMMS. Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment issues.
  3. Projects: Support capital improvement projects, system upgrades, and energy conservation initiatives from planning through commissioning.
  4. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all systems comply with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental regulations. Champion workplace safety and ensure strict adherence to Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) protocols.

Required Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (or Associate’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience).
  2. Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience managing industrial utility systems (e.g., HVAC, PCW, DI water, compressed air) in a manufacturing environment.
  3. Skills: Ability to read P&IDs and technical drawings. Strong problem-solving skills and experience with maintenance management software.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  1. Regular, predictable on-site attendance is an essential function of this role.
  2. Ability to move throughout offices, manufacturing facilities, and construction areas, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs or ladders.
  3. Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25–50 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting as required, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Ability to work in varied environments, including offices, industrial, and construction settings.
