Job description

Structural Integrity Associates, Inc.(SI) is seeking a Project Engineer. The ideal candidate supports the design, development, and deployment of engineering solutions and specialized equipment for nuclear industry customers. This role combines hands-on engineering execution, field support, equipment fabrication, and customer collaboration.
SI is a leading engineering consulting firm dedicated to helping clients manage asset performance, reliability, and life extension across critical infrastructure industries, including nuclear power generation. Through advanced engineering expertise, innovation, and practical solutions, we support operating fleets, advanced reactor development, and research organizations worldwide.
Working closely with senior engineering staff, the Project Engineer will assist in developing customized solutions, supporting pilot-scale testing, and executing projects both at our Rockdale facility and at customer sites. This position requires technical creativity, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to represent the company professionally while working independently in challenging industrial environments..
The work environment is highly collaborative and may involve interaction with other technical disciplines within Structural Integrity (e.g., Materials, Corrosion, Vessels & Internals, Operational Support Services, and Engineering Services) based on project requirements. Projects may range from chemistry optimization and troubleshooting efforts to utility assessments, research initiatives, and engineering evaluations. Day to day work will be a combination of office, fabrication shop, and nuclear plant field environments. Position may involve physical labor, equipment handling, and field installation activities. Travel frequency will vary depending on project assignments
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and clients to deliver technical solutions to complex operational and radiochemical challenges.
  • Support fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of specialized equipment.
  • Perform pilot-scale testing of liquid processing and chemistry-related systems.
  • Execute field support activities at nuclear facilities, including troubleshooting and servicing installed systems.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and engineering analyses.
  • Support in-plant project execution.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline. Commensurate experience working in nuclear power will also be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access at domestic and international nuclear facilities.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on work in industrial environments.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required (~25-35%).
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug screening required for nuclear plant access

Desired Skills/Qualifications:
  • Experience or familiarity with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of electrical cabling design, harnesses, and panel integration.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, chassis or rack design.
  • Background in chemistry, chemical engineering, nuclear plant operations, or radiological systems.
  • Experience working in regulated or industrial environments
Pay Range:
The expected salary range for this role is $81,440 - $122,600 in Rockdale, IL. Exact pay will be commensurate with experience.
