Job description

Location: Nodaway, IA

As a Feedyard Operations Intern at Balance4ward, you’ll work alongside our feedyard team and gain hands-on experience with the day-to-day responsibilities that keep a yard running. This internship will expose you to different areas of feedyard operations while providing the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Support daily feedyard operations and cattle care
  • Gain hands-on experience with animal health, processing, and low-stress cattle handling
  • Learn bunk reading, nutrition, feed delivery, and feed procurement
  • Assist with cattle movement, marketing, and logistics
  • Gain exposure to yard operations, maintenance, and equipment
  • Learn how cattle performance and operational decisions work together
  • Participate in team meetings, planning, and day-to-day problem solving
  • Take ownership of assigned projects from planning through completion
  • Complete Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification
  • Receive feedback and apply it to strengthen your work

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is positive, dependable, hardworking, curious, and ready to learn. The right person is willing to jump in, take initiative, ask questions, work safely around cattle and equipment, receive feedback, and work well with others.

This isn’t an internship where you’ll spend the summer watching from the sidelines. You’ll be part of the team, contribute to real work, and gain hands-on experience with the people, cattle, and daily operations that drive the feedyard.

Housing: Balance4ward will assist in locating housing for the duration of the summer within drivable distance of the Nodaway office location. Intern will be responsible for up to $200 of living expenses per month plus any extra utilities. If a home address is within drivable distance, the intern may commute.

The Balance4ward Internship Program is a paid, 12-week opportunity that takes place during the summer months (May–August). Interns are expected to commit to the full 12-week program.
