Job description

Emery Sapp & Sons is seeking a hardworking and safety-focused Concrete Substation Laborer to support the construction of electrical substations and related infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for assisting crews with site preparation, excavation support, concrete foundation work, form setting, rebar installation, and general labor activities required for substation construction. The ideal candidate is dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with substation construction activities, including concrete foundations, equipment pads, trenches, and structural installations
  • Support crews with site preparation, grading, excavation support, and material handling
  • Assist with setting, bracing, and stripping concrete forms
  • Install and tie reinforcing steel (rebar) according to project specifications
  • Support concrete placement, consolidation, finishing, and curing activities
  • Load, unload, and stage construction materials, tools, and equipment
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Assist with installation of grounding systems, conduit, and underground utilities as directed
  • Perform general labor duties including digging, shoveling, trench cleanup, and jobsite housekeeping
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Work closely with foremen, operators, and craft personnel to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in construction practices
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Traveling required
  • Previous construction experience required; concrete or heavy civil construction experience preferred
  • Experience with concrete forming, rebar installation, concrete placement, or foundation work is a plus
  • Knowledge of basic construction tools and equipment
  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic construction math
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel as project needs require
  • Valid driver's license preferred
