General Description
The purpose of this position is to plan, develop, organize, direct, and evaluate all aspects of the Painting Department and provide supervision of department personnel.
Essential Job Duties
  1. Use the physical plant computer to schedule, track, and report the department's work orders. Prioritize work orders to ensure high level of productivity.
  2. Accurately estimate material and labor cost to complete painting projects.
  3. Manage material and labor cost in order to keep them at a minimum.
  4. Serve as a paint consultant in regards to color and type of paint and/or covering to be used on projects.
  5. Perform all painting related duties with a high level of competency and establish and maintain a quality standard for all work performed by staff.
  6. Maintain all signage on campus.
  7. Supervise cleaning where pressure washers are required.
  8. Provide technical guidance on each job to include the care and use of equipment and tools. Provide expertise in proper paint mixing and other decorative projects.
  9. Coordinate sandblasting and rigging structures.
  10. Ensure adequate training of staff consistent with their skill levels and with the requirements of the department.
  11. Supervise and approve attendance records and prepare other personnel related documents.
  12. Instruct and educate staff on safety practices related to their work, including; safe use of ladders, swings, stages, scaffolding and toxic materials. Conduct routine safety meetings.
  13. Read and interpret blueprints, layout schematics, and other technical documents related to projects.
  14. Supervise stripping, decorating, refinishing and painting utility furniture as required.
  15. Supervise the installation of wallpaper.
  16. Participate in the recruiting process of staff within the department.
  17. Provide leadership, evaluate, and supervise direct reports in performing duties as charged.

Additional Duties
  • Supervise the annual layout, marking and painting of streets and parking lots in conjunction with traffic control to obtain maximum usable space.
  • Place decals on physical plant fleet and around campus.
  • Remove any graffiti around campus.

  • Ability to work on-call and before/after normal work hours as requested.
  • Knowledge of blueprints, and a broad knowledge of painter trades;
  • Physical ability to climb ladders and work in high places.

Education and Experience
The educational requirement for this position is: High school diploma/GED Education substituted for experience? No
This position requires: Five years' experience as a painter; Experience substituted for education? No
Licenses, Certification or Registrations
Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications required for this position include:
  • Certified in lead base renovation.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Acceptable driving record
