Job description
I. POSITION OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this position is to lead and supervise a team of operators in the safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operation of the Utility 1 & 3 units. The Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for maximizing production, optimizing operational efficiency, controlling production costs, and ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, health, and regulatory requirements. The Operations Shift Supervisor develops operator knowledge and technical capabilities to effectively respond to all process conditions, exercises independent judgment in directing daily operations, and ensures work is performed in a safe and healthful environment. This position fosters a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Shift Management: Be accountable for each operator’s safety assigned to me. Be accountable for any permit and OSHA violations for the safe operation of the Utility plants. Ensure the complex maintains a safe and continuous supply of Power & Steam under all circumstances. Evaluate process upsets and resolving the issues associated with those occurrences. Be accountable for validating operator time records. Oversee and audit lockouts for maintenance work. Be responsible for the training of operators. Ensure the correct amounts of certified operators are scheduled for a shift. Address personnel issues that arise on shift and determine appropriate resolutions in a professional and respectful manner.
Manage and Lead: Assign the operators to their areas of responsibility and monitor daily by reviewing the log sheets, checklists, and walkdowns. Address and resolve operational or personnel conflicts that develop on shift. Be clear and precise in communications with operators and obtain feedback to ensure he/she understands the communication.
Operations: Assess Utility unit operations by reviewing the log sheets, logbook notes, PI trends, DCS readings, and walkdowns. Evaluate operating conditions, identify discrepancies, deviations, and abnormalities, and determine appropriate corrective actions. Manage, solve, and /or recommend resolving discrepancies, deviations, and abnormalities by staying up to date and alert on the operational processes within Utilities. Direct operators on the appropriate course of action during nights, weekends, process upsets, and other situations requiring immediate response.
Facilitate the Fulfillment of Work Orders: Gather and collect the daily/weekly/monthly checklists and review for abnormalities. Evaluate identified abnormalities and determine the appropriate priority for follow-up. Flag abnormalities and relay them to the Operation Staff personnel (Day Supervisors / Engineers / Managers) in the unit logbook. Follow up with maintenance work to reduce equipment downtime and ensure repairs are through to reduce subsequent failures and downtime.
Staff Development: Train and develop each individual’s talents to the fullest, assessing operator capabilities and identifying training needs to support continued development and operational readiness. Create an environment that supports collaboration, cross-functional teamwork, and information sharing.
THM – Promote cleanliness and order through implementation of the Total House Keeping Management program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant like new condition.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
A. TECHNICAL JOB CRITERIA
1. Previous Related Experience Required
A minimum of five (5) years' experience in Chemical/Petrochemical Operations as a chemical operator. Utility-Power field and board operations experience preferred.
2. Technical Skills Required to Perform This Job
• Personal computer and applicable software including the ability to learn new systems that the company introduces.
• Use of hand tools, gauges, indicators, operation of DCS and sample testing equipment.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good troubleshooting skills.
• Good organizational skills that allow the management of multiple issues
• Able to control the process on DCS (Process computers/controllers).
3. Education
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of direct job-related experience
required, with a process chemical operator course preferred.
4. Other Certification/Training Required
• Will require training in Company Policies and Procedures after hire.
• Current employees must meet all technical and safety training requirements for
current position, as specified in the Master Training Plan.
• Continual development as required such as: Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), &
Master Training Plan (MTP).
