Broadband Telecom Services, Inc. (BTS) is a comprehensive telecommunications construction contractor providing underground and aerial construction services throughout Texas. Our operations include fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure installation, trenching, boring, aerial construction, cable placement, and related field services.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Broadband Telecom Services is seeking an experienced
Assistant Construction Manager to support the management and oversight of telecommunications construction operations, including underground and aerial construction crews.
The Assistant Construction Manager will assist in planning, coordinating, and supervising field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and customer requirements.
This position serves as a key link between field crews, subcontractors, project management, customers, and company leadership. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
  • Provide leadership, direction, and field oversight to telecommunications construction crews, subcontractors, and other field personnel.
  • Provide on-site management and coordination of underground and aerial construction activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily construction activities to support project schedules, production goals, and customer commitments.
  • Supervise construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, customer requirements, budget, and established schedules.
  • Coordinate with Construction Manager, client representatives, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and other contractors as required.
  • Review construction plans, drawings, maps, specifications, and work orders and assist field personnel with interpretation and implementation.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and resources necessary to maintain project productivity and schedule.
  • Monitor material usage and assist with material control, inventory, and delivery requirements.
  • Monitor job progress and production to identify potential delays, deficiencies, or cost concerns and communicate them to project management.
  • Assist with project cost control and provide information necessary to maintain projects within budget.
  • Assist with field change requests, purchase requisitions, and other project documentation as authorized.
  • Provide technical assistance and recommend appropriate construction methods, equipment, and procedures when needed.
  • Oversee quality control activities and ensure work meets company, customer, contractual, and industry standards.
  • Conduct field inspections to identify construction deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, customer safety requirements, and project-specific safety procedures.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and work practices, take appropriate corrective action, and report violations to management.
  • Assist with incident reporting, documentation, and follow-up as required.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, project procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, photographs, project documentation, and other required field records.
  • Monitor crew productivity and promote efficient utilization of labor, materials, tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Assist with coordinating inspections, project closeout activities, punch-list completion, and restoration requirements.
  • Support customer satisfaction by maintaining professional communication and promptly addressing field concerns.
  • Assist Construction Management with resolving construction issues, scheduling conflicts, and field-related challenges.
  • Travel to job sites and work in varying outdoor conditions as required.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned or as business needs require.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of five (5) years of telecommunications, utility, or related construction management or field supervision experience.
  • Previous Assistant Construction Manager, General Foreman, Foreman, or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Telecommunications or utility construction management experience.
  • Experience with fiber optic construction and splicing operations.
  • Experience working with major telecommunications carriers or utility clients.
  • Experience with construction scheduling, production tracking, and cost control.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising construction crews or field personnel.
  • Strong knowledge of underground and aerial telecommunications construction practices.
  • Experience with trenching, directional boring, cable installation, aerial construction, and fiber optic construction.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, and maps.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, crews, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, subcontractors, customers, inspectors, and company management.
  • OSHA or other applicable construction safety training.
  • Experience with project management or construction management software.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires regular travel to and between construction job sites and may require working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
The position may require:
  • Walking and standing on uneven terrain and active construction sites.
  • Climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and working around construction equipment.
  • Entering and inspecting excavation and construction areas when conditions are safe and permitted.
  • Working near aerial construction, traffic, heavy equipment, and other construction hazards.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials, tools, or equipment.
  • Working extended hours, weekends, or varying schedules as project demands require.
