- Perform engineering and design activities for transmission and distribution substations, switching stations, collector stations, BESS stations, and related utility infrastructure.
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
- Develop station layouts, general arrangements, grounding systems, conduit and cable routing, equipment layouts, and associated design packages.
- Support protection and control, SCADA, communications, and station auxiliary systems design coordination.
- Perform engineering studies including grounding, load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, insulation coordination, arc flash, cable ampacity, and related analyses.
- Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and technical specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Provide interpretation of engineering drawings, standards, specifications, and utility requirements to construction teams and subcontractors.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve engineering and field construction issues and design discrepancies.
- Support procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, energization, and project closeout activities.
- Coordinate with utilities, clients, contractors, suppliers, regulators, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Monitor engineering changes, technical risks, scope modifications, and contract extras.
- Prepare and maintain as-built documentation and engineering records.
- Support proposals, estimates, and pursuits for new work.
- Stamp and seal engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable jurisdictional requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, technologists, and project teams as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility to practice and seal engineering documents in Ontario; and/or Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Michigan with authority to sign and seal engineering deliverables.
- 3 to 7 years of progressive experience in utility engineering, substation engineering, station design, power systems, or related electrical infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting engineering projects from concept through commissioning.
- Experience working with utilities, EPC, EPCM, industrial, renewable energy, or transmission and distribution projects.
- Knowledge of station and substation physical design.
- Familiarity with protection and control systems, SCADA, communications, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Understanding of applicable electrical codes, utility standards, industry practices, and engineering governance requirements.
- Working knowledge of grounding, power system studies, high-voltage equipment, switchgear, transformers, relay systems, and station auxiliary systems.
- Experience reviewing engineering calculations and design packages.
- Knowledge of engineering change management processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using power system analysis and engineering software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CYME, CDEGS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bluebeam, or equivalent tools.
- Experience with renewable energy, BESS, utility interconnection, transmission, or collector station projects.
- Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and energization activities.
- Experience preparing sealed engineering packages for utility clients.
