Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing expertise and leadership in website and web application user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) coding and design. Duties include developing enterprise-level UI guidelines and best practices, developing and coding templates and other design assets, supporting website and application project teams in the development of new products, fostering an environment of continuous improvement by adopting user-centered design principles and supporting the operation of agency websites and web applications. The incumbent will provide guidance to business partners and IT resources with his/her expertise in design to ensure usability and positive user experience for members, employers and agency staff.
This position is telework eligible and offers a hybrid work schedule, based on agency and department needs. Scheduled in-office workdays will be at the PERA office, 60 Empire Drive, Suite 200, St. Paul, Minnesota.
• Candidates residing in Minnesota within 50 miles of our St Paul office may be eligible to telework up to 50%.
• Candidates residing in Minnesota and more than 50 miles from our office may be eligible to telework more than 50%.
• Candidates residing in a bordering state within 50 miles of our office may be eligible to telework up to 50%.
• Candidates who do not reside in Minnesota or within 50 miles of the office in a state bordering Minnesota are not eligible to be hired, unless planning to relocate within 50 miles of the office or report to the office full time.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Only applicants whose application and resume clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each minimum qualification listed below will be considered for this position. Ensure your resume contains descriptions of your work experience sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below. Also indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
Three (3) years of experience in website user application interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design.
Years of experience must also demonstrate the following:
• Experience with Figma and Adobe user experience design tools.
• Experience creating user flows, wireframes, and task models that solve defined problems.
• Experience structuring content, navigation, and taxonomy for clarity and usability.
• Experience in responsive design, accessibility (WCAG), and web platform guidelines
• Experience working both independently and within a team in a deadline driven environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience serving as the UX representative on Agile product teams, participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and story development.
• Service design experience mapping end-to-end journeys across channels.
• Experience facilitating ideation sessions, journey mapping workshops, or design sprints.
• Experience conducting user research activities such as stakeholder interviews, usability testing, surveys, contextual inquiry, or user feedback analysis.
• Experience creating, maintaining, or contributing to enterprise design systems and reusable UI component libraries.
• Experience collaborating closely with software engineers and product teams to translate designs into implemented solutions.
