Summer Intern, User Experience (UX) Research

The Allegion Research and Software Solutions Team is seeking a digital user experience (UX) Research-Design Intern to collaborate with our Global Software Solutions product teams. This position is responsible for assisting in research and design efforts throughout the product design life cycle, which will include but will not be limited to documenting user needs, facilitating generative research, testing design concepts with internal resources and external customers, design evaluation, and design. This role will collaborate closely with internal team members and other cross-functions across engineering and business.

We're looking for candidates with career interests and emerging skills in digital UX research and design.

We are open to hybrid candidates local to the Indianapolis metro area.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with members of the UX team to develop the research that will inform the creation of user personas and journey maps.

  • Conduct a variety of different design research activities, including quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, persona construction, solution validation, usability tests, heuristic evaluations, etc.

  • Work closely with your fellow UX researchers to identify research opportunities, develop research plans, recruit participants, execute the research, and present your findings to a cross-functional team?.

  • Communicate research findings to product and business partners.

  • Support the creation of design deliverables (e.g., user flows, journey maps, and/or conceptual prototypes) and documentation to help gather feedback on proposed solutions from internal stakeholders and users.

  • Collaborate with product and development teams to understand concept feasibility and support design hand-offs.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • At least Junior standing in a post-secondary school majoring in User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Social Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • A portfolio that showcases specific examples of your research abilities (telling the story of the user needs, success metrics, and what you learned along the way.)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to help build empathy for users and clearly share research findings.

  • Ability to analyze research data and identify actionable insights.

  • You're current with the latest research tools, methods, trends, and technology.

  • You have a solid grasp of Design Thinking principles, UI/layout concepts, and how technology influences design & vice versa?.

  • Experience utilizing remote testing and facilitation tools, e.g., Maze and MS Teams.

  • Knowledge of modern digital design and prototyping tools including Figma.

  • You have a background in a variety of research tools and methods including contextual inquiry, user interviews, persona & journey map development, heuristic analysis, card sorting, usability & desirability studies, and quantitative surveys.
