Job description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
We are looking for a Sr. UX Designer to drive the definition and design for Leo's mobile and web design framework capabilities. The design system provides the components used throughout the website and mobile app, provides tools for designers and developers, and documents the human interface guidelines for how to use the components. In this role, you will collaborate with a team of world-class multi-disciplinary designers to invent and deliver UX frameworks and features that align and extend the experience across all devices. You will champion a design system and invent and simplify a set of mechanisms, building blocks and tools that empower designers and engineers building the future experiences for no code/low code products within Amazon.
Amazon Leo's success requires leaders who are owners, and who possess the entrepreneurial spirit needed to create new products. Leaders will solve complex problems and get things done. A successful candidate has a passion for design systems, strong visual and interaction design senses, a customer-obsessed UX toolkit, and a history of applying them at scale. You'll use these skills to define, grow and refine our design system's foundations, components, and patterns, in addition to helping us expand to new customers, and technologies.
The ideal candidate is customer-obsessed and has experience collaborating with designers and researchers to collect user insights and feedback to validate designs. Candidates who are adept at leading internal and external design workshops and design discovery activities are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must be capable of synthesizing a variety of inputs into experiences and designs that customers love!
This role is located in Redmond, WA and candidate will be required to be onsite. No location flexibility.

Key job responsibilities
- Identify, create, and optimize design foundations, reusable components, and high-level patterns for the Leo Design System
- Deliver artifacts that raise the bar for visual and user experience design, whether you're working on wireframes, user flows, high-fidelity mockups, or prototypes.
- Partner with a multi-disciplinary product and engineering team to own the implementation of your work.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers and other stakeholders across teams and organizations to increase adoption and shape the future of our design system.
- Create and optimize the processes and tools available to our designer, developers, and other consumers to collaborate.
- Partner with our product and engineering teams to create a consistent cross device customer and user experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, or equivalent design-related field; or commensurate experience.
- 6+ years of UX design or interaction design experience
- 6+ years of design experience creating mockups, wireframes and prototypes for web and mobile applications and/or workflows.
- Experience using tools such as Figma for prototyping design concepts and for defining and documenting the user interface architecture (UI patterns, components and guidelines).
- Proficient establishing, designing and using design systems and design frameworks
- Have an available online portfolio demonstrating samples of design deliverables (design systems, personas, journey maps, wireframes, and prototypes)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing consumer-facing or enterprise experiences.
- Experience in applying and advocating for best practices for accessible UX. Experience designing for federal 508 Compliance a plus.
- 4+ years of experience working in direct collaboration with product managers, developers, and/or stakeholders
- Experience participating in the complete product development lifecycle of successfully launched applications
- Ability to prototype in environments like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS a plus but not required
- Ability to manage multiple projects and make impact in a fast-paced environment.
- Adobe Creative Cloud experience (Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar) a plus
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate the rationale behind your design decisions.
- Demonstrated history of conducting user research, or assisting with the collection of user insights and feedback (e.g., customer interviews and usability studies) and leveraging research in your designs
- Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity and a track record of leading design projects that have launched.
