As the Principal UX Designer, you will lead the development and enhancement of user-centered design strategies that drive exceptional customer experiences. This role involves partnering in comprehensive user research, synthesizing insights, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create intuitive, scalable interaction designs. You will influence business outcomes by aligning design solutions with stakeholder needs and market trends while ensuring usability and accessibility. Your expertise will guide prototyping, usability testing, and iterative improvements, fostering innovation and excellence in retail design to deliver impactful, data-driven user experiences across digital platforms.
About the team:
The Walmart Global Design Homepage, Navigation, and Events team shapes the architecture of Walmart’s website and mobile app, managing some of the highest-traffic areas of the Walmart digital experience. This team crafts engaging homepage experiences that highlight top products, events, and value, guiding customers through their shopping journeys. They develop tailored solutions for major holidays and shopping events to attract and retain customers. Collaborating across functions, the team applies user-centered design, prototyping, and usability testing to enhance consumer engagement and satisfaction, ensuring a seamless and effective retail experience.
  What you'll do:
  • Lead user research initiatives including interviews, surveys, and site visits to gather actionable insights that inform design strategies.
  • Develop and refine user journeys, storyboards, and interaction designs to enhance overall user experience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to align UX solutions with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Design and prototype scalable, user-centered interfaces adhering to established design principles and platform guidelines.
  • Conduct usability testing and iterate designs based on feedback to optimize product performance and satisfaction.
  • Manage documentation of design specifications, patterns, and style guides to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Mentor and guide team members to foster professional growth and maintain high-quality design standards.

What you'll bring:
  • Experience with either: Retail and promotional design including understanding of variants, business cases, telemetry and data use or
  • Information architecture and systems design, especially for large-scale faceted experiences
  • Mastery of current design tools like Figma, as well as experience using AI-assisted tooling to build representative functional prototypes
  • Comfort with large sets of stakeholders and a good intuition for time management and prioritization
  • Extensive experience in user-centered design, including user interviews, surveys, and journey mapping to enhance interaction design and user experience strategies.
  • Proficiency in prototyping, usability testing, and developing scalable design solutions aligned with native mobile conventions and style guides.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder identification, engagement, and communication to build effective partnerships and influence technical outcomes.
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis, and synthesizing insights to drive design improvements.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and deliver clear, concise reports supporting business strategy and customer needs.
