Job description

The Director of Recruiting (DIR) is responsible for leading all aspects of Driver Recruiting for Bison USA, a function that is foundational to the company’s growth and revenue generation. Drivers are essential to our operational and financial success, and this role plays a critical part in ensuring Bison USA attracts, hires, and retains the professional drivers needed to support current operations and future growth.


The DIR provides strategic leadership across driver recruiting, workforce planning, and market positioning, while also supporting retention initiatives in partnership with internal stakeholders. This role is accountable for developing innovative, competitive recruiting strategies that respond to market conditions, driver expectations, and evolving business needs. The DIR also plays a key role in integrating driver recruiting for new business segments following acquisitions, ensuring alignment beyond the current organizational structure.


Hours: 8:00-5:00 pm Monday through Friday

Location: Amherst, WI/Des Moines, IA/Chicago, IL


Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Driver Recruiting Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of Bison USA’s driver recruiting strategy to meet hiring demand, support revenue growth, and align with operational requirements.
  • Conduct continuous competitive market research to understand industry trends and ensure Bison USA remains competitive in attracting, hiring, and retaining professional drivers.
  • Oversee the end‑to‑end intake and onboarding process for new drivers, ensuring programs, expectations, and responsibilities are clearly communicated at the point of hire.
  • Achieve budgeted hiring targets and provide data and insights to support annual workforce planning and budgeting.
  • Develop and execute targeted driver marketing strategies by region and job type, using market research to highlight the strengths of Bison USA’s driver programs and address gaps where required.
  • Lead the development of advertising campaigns, promotions, and participation in trade shows and industry events.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support driver retention initiatives, including the Employee Referral Program, and design promotional activities that maximize engagement and program effectiveness.
  • Ensure that expectations of both the company and the driver are clearly identified, documented, and aligned at the point of hire to support long‑term fit and retention.
  • Proactively expand and diversify driver sourcing channels to strengthen the pipeline and support future growth.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations to maintain accurate, current information on driving roles and ensure recruiting teams are well‑trained on position requirements.
  • Develop and manage effective incentive programs for recruiting staff to drive performance and results.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners and vendors, including CDL schools, lead providers, software vendors, and other suppliers.
  • Represent Bison USA through involvement with strategic industry associations and partnerships.
  • Oversee relationships with schools and field recruiters, ensuring consistent engagement, regular site visits, and strong presence in key driver markets.


Employee Development

  • Provide leadership and ongoing development for recruiting team members through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Enhance recruiting effectiveness through improved communication, measurement, and the development of key performance indicators.
  • Complete timely, meaningful performance reviews and development planning.
  • Ensure team members have the tools, training, and support needed to perform at a high level.
  • Model expected leadership behaviors and standards across the function.


Administration and Driver Care

  • Partner with the Safety team to support the administration and ongoing management of Driver Programs, including records, requirements, procedures, and compliance‑related activities.
  • Play a central role in addressing and resolving non‑operational disputes and performance‑related concerns, fostering positive working relationships.


Other

  • Participate in additional projects and initiatives as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Contribute to cross‑functional committees, working groups, and focus teams aligned to company goals.
