About the Country Manager, US

We are looking for a passionate and visionary individual with expertise in communications, digital engagement, and fundraising. The Country Manager leads on developing and implementing national program strategies to advance our mission and global objectives. They are also responsible for growing 350's influence, income, and impact in the US, blazing a trail towards an increasingly independent and well-resourced programme. This includes providing strategic and inspiring leadership to a diverse, multifunctional and passionate group of stakeholders; stewarding internal processes including communication and digital, collaboration and coordination, building alignment around strategic steer, values and political analysis; and driving local supporter growth, visibility, alliances and fundraising, as part of the organization's global strategy to grow and strengthen a powerful climate justice movement.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Program Leadership:

• Develop and support the implementation of short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to grow our US work.
• Support the US Campaigner to proactively research and develop national campaign opportunities that align with our global campaign objectives and engage our US supporters.
• Partner with the Institutional Giving and Individual Giving teams to ensure US program strategies, priorities, and funding needs are clearly articulated and positioned for fundraising.
• Work with the fundraising team and contribute to annual global fundraising plans by identifying priority areas for investment, anticipated funding gaps, and opportunities that align global programmatic ambition with donor interests.
• Provide timely programmatic input into decisions about which funding opportunities to pursue, including an assessment of strategic alignment, delivery capacity, risks, and resource requirements.
• Provide timely and substantive program input into fundraising proposals, concept notes, donor presentations, reports, and other external materials.
• Ensure that program strategies, activities, outcomes, budgets, and evidence are translated into clear and compelling narratives for different donor audiences.
• Work closely with the global digital engagement and fundraising teams to ensure the growth of our US supporter base and the achievement of 350's individual giving goals in the US.
• Monitor all of our work with key performance indicators
• Ensure that donor-funded commitments are understood, incorporated into team plans, and delivered in coordination with fundraising, finance, grants management, and monitoring and evaluation colleagues.
• Support accurate and timely donor reporting by ensuring that the team maintains appropriate program records, evidence of results, and financial information
• Provide strategic guidance and analysis for media and social media engagement opportunities and messaging - including crisis and rapid response. Serve as spokesperson for interviews, press releases, videos, and events when requested.
• Contribute to our communications strategy and implementation, including advising team members working on 350 US's comms and digital work.
• Serve as a senior program representative in selected donor and partner conversations, working closely with fundraising colleagues to communicate the US program's strategy, impact, funding needs, and distinctive contribution.
• Support the cultivation and stewardship of institutional and individual donors by participating in briefings, meetings, events, and other engagement opportunities as appropriate.
• Build and maintain relationships with relevant philanthropic, movement, and civil society stakeholders that can strengthen the program's visibility, partnerships, and funding prospects.
• Develop and manage US budget and project budgets. As needed, delegate authority to team members for planning and spending project budgets
  

Contribution to global leadership:

• Proactively help to shape global strategy and global campaigns based on your grounded analysis of national realities.
• Represent the US to relevant internal structures by collaborating with country counterparts and global teams.
• Identify and seize opportunities for work in the country to contribute to cross-country and international initiatives and campaigns. From time to time, play a global leadership role in coordinating such initiatives.
• Ensure effective work relationships between the country team and other parts of the organization. Model and help to build unified, coherent and effective leadership across the organization.

Supervision & Team Management:

• Manage and supervise staff and consultants as assigned.
• Facilitate the coordination of the US planning processes, systems, and day-to-day coordination and collaboration
• Set, track, and evaluate progress towards team and campaign goals
• Build team alignment and foster a positive team culture
• Ensure effective collaboration between the US programme, global and country teams.
• Ensure a healthy team culture that is grounded in JEDI principles and 350's norms and values.

Public Engagement and representation:

• Understand 350.org's history, campaigns, and theory of social change, and keep current with basic climate science and policy as well as specific political, social, and economic trends in the country and region that affect our strategy.
• Use this knowledge to act as 350.org's most senior local spokesperson, representing us regularly in the media, on social channels, with donors and at key external events.

Required Qualifications:

• At least six (6) years of experience in political organizing and campaigning
• Track record as an effective spokesperson in public-facing events and media interviews.
• At least three (3) years of experience in people management and teamwork in diverse and multi-racial organizations - including line management, communications, and digital campaigns staff.
• Track record in designing and implementing (digital) communication strategies
• Strong understanding of climate justice, strategy and social movements in the US.
• A demonstrated application of and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI), anti-racism or anti-oppression work. Strong ability to collaborate and work effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, class, age, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
• Strong ability to think strategically and translate overarching strategies into department goals.
• Experience contributing to institutional fundraising, donor engagement, proposal development, grant reporting, and the stewardship of restricted funding.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex data into clear and simple messages for a wide range of audiences.
• Ability to manage priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced remote environment
• Experience with G-Suite

Desired (but not required) skills and experiences:

• Experience with digital content production, including social media and emails
• Experience in Digital Fundraising
• Experience working in a remote, international organization
• Experience working with unionized staff in the US

We are looking for someone comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.

Position Type: Full-time (36 hours/week), 12-month fixed-term employment contract

Compensation: Annual gross salary of $105,000 (350.org Salary Grade Level 3.3)

Location: Remote in the following states: CO, CT, MD, MA, ME, NJ, NY, NC, PA, VT, VA, WI, Washington, DC; with a preference for the NY or DC metro areas.
